How to become a good doctor: Stop the toxic seniority and treat the med students, nurses and residents the same way you wanted to be treated during med school

Jake, I agree with you completely. It's easy to tell how compassionate and caring you are. I love how to stuck with it and didn't allow yourself to give up. That shows how much you really wanted to be a doctor and give your life to caring for people you don't even know . I wish you could be my doctor.

Not to mention, it is these skills that will garner you the respect of both your patients, and your nurses (and other physicians I'm sure).

You rock doc!

Thank you 🙏🏼 I know people who happen to be your patient are so lucky. More than anything is humility and compassion. Some doctors won’t even take time to explain what your prognosis are and lack compassion. Why become a doctor if you’re not interested to help people. I know I’ve relatives who became a doctor I do believe bc of prestige;(
It’s sad do something else if you’re not interested in helping people

This couldn’t be more true. I have some doctors like my pediatrician who are just so sweet and truly care about me. And than some of my other medical team seem to not care. My neurosurgeon is ok but doesn’t contact us when needed, same with my nephrologist, and cardiologist. Things aren’t getting done. I was even admitted at one point, but some didn’t care. THOSE DOCTORS WHO HAVE SOCIAL SKILLS TRULY IMPACT YOUR LIFE. YOU WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THEM. <3

Sooo True! I’ve worked with kids, adults, customer service, petcare, & DoorDash. Asking people how they are doing & how their day is going opens opportunities to LISTEN if they choose to share. Sooo many people have said that they really appreciate me taking the time to ASK.
Those people skills take you incredibly far no matter what career you choose!
Especially with people interactions all day!
Definitely is worth doing jobs that get you to the one you want to do as your passion & career!

You're 100% correct. There are some doctors who don't give a damn. They just want to get paid and go home. You're amazing!

Totally agree, bedside manner and treating those that deserve dignity is far more important than treating someone as a number. "I am a person before I am a patient"

I'm a new grad nurse. 6 months in, and I often doubt my abilities to be a nurse. I feel like I might not be that good at the "science", but I am starting to know that I'm good at "knowing" my patient. I recently had one of my patients start crying, she thanked me for being patient, gentle, and caring. I told her that that is just my job. She replied with "well not everyone does their job like you". It really made me feel like I picked the right career. I'm a 37 year old. I have worked in the restraunt, hotel, bar industries my whole life. This video really hit home with me.

It’s true. Healthcare is ultimately that sort of connection you can have with people.

Knowledge is great, but caring is what’s really important.

This man out here single handedly being the only good doctor. I hope he paves the way for other doctors to be good doctors.

Couldn’t agree more. I have had over 35 surgeries and been in the ER probably over 200 times and having a doctor who actually listens and makes you feel comfortable are the ones who helped me and even in a 2 min interaction some doctors have at worse moments where it felt hopeless that they made so much difference

YES!!!! I've had to go to the doctor a lot because of my health issues and those things mean the world. Doctors don't always have that, thank you for doing that for your patients. ☺

100% true! It is so hard to find a good doctor, so many are so dismissive and have a complete lack of bedside manner. While i understand to them i am only one, but to me they are the one i am trusting with my life or more importantly my childs life.
