GLSEN’s Day of Silence is a student-led protest calling attention to the harmful effects of anti-LGBTQ harassment and discrimination in K-12 schools.

Everywhere you look students are demonstrating the power of youth organizing. Now in its 24th year, hundreds of thousands of students are once again organizing the Day of Silence to demand that school officials take action to improve the educational experience of LGBTQ students.

I wanted to come to this old video to say thank you, the day of silence was extremely important to me and accepting my own sexuality. Back in 2007 or so a few kids at my middle school organized to take part in the day of silence. I only found out about it the day of but still participated as much as possible. It is honestly the first time I remember taking part in something LGBT+ related. The only out kid I knew of had all the pins and stickers and my deeply closeted self loved taking part.

It would be amazing if you, GLSEN, could add subtitles to this video. The auto-generated subtitles are not great. It's a terrific video that would be great to share with our community, but would be even better if it were accessible to all.

As a part of my world that spreads light and love unconditionally, I am proudly participating in the day of silence. I believe noone should be beaten on because of there sexuality. Lots claim to be unconditional lovers, but not everyone is telling the truth on that matter. But the way I was raised and as a proud pansexual as well, I will not stand for the hate that people give. Thank you, i hope at least some find solice in this day of silence

As a preface, I am sorry to all who are offended by what I say. I fully support the LGBTQIA+ community.

This silence thing is weird. Of all the ways to grieve for those who feel pressured because they can't show who they are, why silence. Silence is a tool used to think. After a death, silence is used to bring back all the memories of the one no longer living. Monks take a vow of silence so they can become more in touch with their religion. We take moments of silence to remember those who are starving in Africa, those who have to move through borders to simply stay alive, and the children who are beaten by their parents everyday to name a few things. The fact that we should stay silent because of people who have to hide their identity is odd in that respect. It is sad that some people can't come out, but there are thousands more who might have to use a fake identity. It is not fair that we discriminate towards those who are different, but LGBTQIA+ is a very small section. So what I recommend is this. Instead of being silent simply to support the LGBTQIA+ community, let's use this silence to think. Without talking, we can think to ourselves what we can do better. Silence is not to honor. It is to think. Why LGBTQIA+? Aren't there millions of people suffering in the world? Why don't we do a day of silence for them? All that needs to be done is day of silence for everyone suffering. A day to think about problems and solutions.

I totally agree that NOBODY should be discriminated against, but I feel like having a day of silence instead of a day of talking about the issue is a waste of time. And no offense but the people walking around with duck tape on their mouths look stupid and btw that's bad for your lips.

I disagree about this because this day of silence is on the day of Good Friday which is when Jesus was crucified and died
