I love how in a deleted scene, during the montage of John shopping for new weapons, new suits, and the layout of his mission, he also pays one visit to the Vatican. Although it wasn't meant to see the Pope, he did get a Cardinal to look over the details of his mission and got formal Vatican approval. This deleted scene basically was meant to show that the Church itself was definitely a huge part of the Table.
