Being able to gender someone based on their sex is a deeply instinctive skill. Very occasionally, you might get it wrong, and think a man is a woman or vice versa, but that mistake is very rare. I don't know of anybody who isn't able to accurately guess whether someone is male or female, hundreds of times every day.
