Well I can testify that the approach you advocate is much more productive for me. I remember a good few months ago, all I was doing was practicing scales and not touching the songs I wanted to sing, because I thought I wasn't 'technically' ready for them. My range got better...but whats the point of calling yourself a singer, if you are not singing songs? Whats the point in being able to hit high G's, A's and Bb4's  if you can't implement them in a song? My practice became less fun and so much more boring. Now I try and do a light warm up for a good 10-15 minutes and then just get straight on with the songs. It makes practice much more enjoyable, you learn to actually SING songs. I remember struggling to implement the notes I learnt with the scales into songs. That's probably why I avoided the songs for a while, thinking I wasn't ready for them. The truth is...I needed to SING SONGS in order to be able to sing the songs lol. Now I'm much more confident with my voice, phrasing, range and tone, because of singing the songs I want to practice over and over again until I feel I am satisfied with the result.

Your channel is fantastic mate. Hopefully one day I can book a lesson with you :)

God bless Rached!

Yeah. I tried ... at least 10 different teaching approaches for singing (videos/books mostly) and not a single one mentioned the idea of slowing down songs and learning them note by note/phrase by phrase. Yet guitar/piano/bass; they all bring it up.
