Trump Floats Exceptions for Auto Parts Facing 25% US Tariffs

President Donald Trump said he is exploring possible temporary exemptions to his tariffs on imported vehicles and parts to give auto companies more time to set up US manufacturing.

“I’m looking at something to help car companies with it,” Trump told reporters Monday in the Oval Office. “They’re switching to parts that were made in Canada, Mexico and other places, and they need a little bit of time, because they’re going to make them here.”

The president was asked what short-lived product exclusions he was considering but did not specify how long a potential pause or lowering of auto levies would remain in place.

When the US has something that suits the European market, we buy it. John Deere and Massey Ferguson farm tractors have nearly 45% of the European market. Caterpillar have a large percentage of the construction equipment market, and Boeing sell a lot of planes into Europe.

Notice he said there are no Chevrolets in Munich. Which is true(though technically I think they have the Corvette).

However he refuses to acknowledge that Ford is HUGE in Europe. The Ford Transit is super popular in Europe and so is the Ford Ranger. Up until a few years ago Ford was selling the Fiesta and Focus in Europe as well.
