It's a big step forward that the Toyota Fortuner now has a mild hybrid turbo-diesel engine system, just like the version of the Hilux Ute that it competes with. The new technology, which includes a 48-volt battery and an electric motor generator, is meant to save up to 5 percent on fuel. In spite of the fact that it was first shown in South Africa, it is still not clear if this feature will be offered in Australia.

The Fortuner 48V in South Africa has a mild hybrid system and a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. 150 kW and 500 Nm of torque are made by this mixture. The Toyota Hilux V-Active sold in Australia and the Landcruiser Prado 250-Series that will be out soon both have this same setup. The mild hybrid system that comes with the Fortuner is made up of a six-speed automatic engine and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. But it doesn't have the new Prado's eight-speed automatic transmission. This transmission has a bigger range of gear ratios, which could mean that it uses less gas.

Even though technology has improved, adding light hybrid technology to the Fortuner comes at a higher cost. For example, in South Africa, this adds about 11,000 rand, which is about $900. This is more than the Hilux V-Active in Australia, where prices run from $590 to $770.

In Thailand, both the Toyota Fortuner and the Toyota Hilux are brought into Australia. However, Thailand has not yet installed a mild hybrid system for either car. Because of this, the question comes of whether or not Australian customers will include this technology that saves fuel in their plans to spend money.

There will be a mid-life redesign and technology improvements for the Fortuner in the year 2020. Australia has been able to buy the Fortuner since 2015. This version is different from the one in South Africa in terms of how it looks. In terms of sales, the Fortuner didn't live up to predictions last year; it only sold 3,619 cars in Australia, which was a long way behind the Ford Everest and Prado. Toyota fans and people who want to buy a Toyota are eager to know if and when the mild hybrid Fortuner will be available in Australia. This is because it is said to improve both fuel economy and speed. Keep an eye out for more information about this interesting new development in the SUV market.
