Shooting the Magyar Horse-Bow

I did a bit of talking about the Magyar bow I got from ChineseLongbow on eBay, but I thought everyone would like to actually see what they'd get if they bought one. This model is 50# at 28", and shoots smoothly and pleasantly. It's a great little bow that didn't break the bank.

Couldn't agree more! Good value, decent performance, and came with some really nice arrows to boot! I've contacted customer service before, and they're able to do some custom work - interesting idea for the future.

your arrows were wobbly except the last one at about 1:30  looks like that one shot great and was right on the money. Good choice to move your target. Ac units can get pretty expensive

The one I bought was 40#, and it is a decent weight to begin on. Don't forget, you want to draw the string pretty much to your ear, so it is a lot of strength to pull back and hold it there as you aim and release.

If you get too heavy of a bow, you won't want to shoot it after a few arrows.

I bought one of the bows and I think they are fantastic considering the price. No they are fantastic without considering the price. They have good feel, good balance, smooth draw and are consistent. I have some expensive compounds and recurves but I like shooting this bow the best. I also use the heavy bamboo arrows. Bruce form Australia.

I actually bought three bows from these guys just as they a started selling on eBay. I got a #60 Mongolian style, #60 Chinese style and #35 Chinese style. They started selling as auctions only and had very few bidders so I bought the three for under $65 excluding shipping. I have a collection of 45 traditional bows and these are the fastest bows I own.

They make them to order, in weights from 25# to 80# or more - mine is 50# @28", and draws to 32", where it pulls about 65#. It's a great, great bow. Really casts the bamboo arrows it comes with hard, especially fully drawn...

I'd say the top limb is the one with the Kassai signature on it, but I could be wrong - that's just how it's depicted in ads. Also, the nock point will depend on a bunch of things - start off by making it square with the string, then bump it up about a 1/4" - that's a good start, then try moving it up and down until you find a nock point that results in nice, even arrow flight. Try to tape it from the side, you'll see it do a weird little dance (not just paradoxing) if it's off much.

Fantastically. I've no complaints - in fact, the maker indicates that the bows open up to an absolute max draw of about 32" (ask them first before you try, YMMV!) after some use. To me, that option is a plus. Aside from the finish being mediocre, the bow is really great. Just what the doctor ordered, and you can get them in any weight you like.

Great video! Looks like such a nice area - I wish there were more trees here...

Any time! Oh heck, I'm a crappy shot compared to lots of folks, but at least I'm hitting the target, right :-D Thanks for watching!

Totally agree about ammo prices, this is MUCH cheaper, especially if you "roll your own" arrows - pretty easy to do!

Shooting with confidence... considering the home's AC is just beyond the target. Or at least that's what it looks like :)

Thanks Tim, I guess the creaking sound isn't so bad after all, the bow still shoots like a charm! The creak may be because my fingers slipped and the bow dry fired the last 4-6 in. But that shouldn't caused any problems! :-)

Thank you for the info. I've considered getting a horse bow for some time now....seeing as firearm prices and ammo are through the roof, but I'm not too interested in a longbow. I'm still looking for a shorter one, but yours is beautiful and you're an amazing shot :)

got my bow super cheap 28"45# also ordered a bunch of arrows, only thing i didnt like is there is no nock guide, not that it is hard to figure out but i notice ur arrows spike at the back after u release you need to move your arrow up on the string, great video btw mine is "pink" it came like a cream colour i recommend this type of bow to any traditional archer!!

Glad I'm not the only one enjoying these beauties! I'll admit, the finish isn't perfect, but for under 200 dollars, what more can I ask for? It shoots, and FAST!

One of these bows? eBay is a good bet, that's where I got mine. I spent about $160 delivered, with three arrows, and the prices are pretty much the same regardless of the style of bow (Mongol, Manchu, Magyar, etc.) and draw weight (15 pound costs about the same as an 80+ pound bow).

I purchased mine from ebay price 118.00 free shipping! took 2 1/2 weeks to come. Draw weight is 60 lbs at 29 in. I also have a second one i purchased from the same co. It's a long bow as the 1st one is a mygar bow. The cost was 89.00 free shipping. They both come with a string and silk bow sock. Draw weight 41 lbs at 29 in. They don't measure AMO draw lengths, they measure actuals !!

Wow, fantastic deal. If you can get it for that price, I'd recommend it.
