A story about platform engineering — Niklas Voss

There are many kinds of team topologies and compositions to allow collaboration between development and operations. Many companies are leveraging platform teams to build golden paths and enable self-service capabilities.

The product of a platform team is the internal developer platform (IDP), which is tailored towards its users.

In this talk we will explore a fictional company and a vertical slice of its IDP, which uses the Kubernetes Resource Model as the foundational interface. We will follow a development team which is migrating their application to the IDP and discuss responsibilities, processes, policies and tradeoffs.

The fictional platform architecture leverages several CNCF projects, among them are Crossplane, Tekton, ArgoCD, Kyverno and Sigstore. We want to highlight where each component fits in and what they bring to the table.
