Maine has been one of the top destinations for Brook Trout for over a century and with good reason. The rivers and lakes of the state offer some outstanding fly fishing opportunities for anglers. Mike Melnyk visits Chandlers Lake Camps & Lodge to experience both spring river fishing for Brook Trout and also summer lake Hex hatch dry fly action! Lots of great information and details on this beautiful state and the outstanding services provided by Chandlers Lake Camps & Lodge.

Brook Trout fishing is pure American fishing. So often I would have oved to have seen our rivers the way they use to be full of giant brook trout and Atlantic Salmon.

Maybe my favorite video so far coming out of NFF. Was definitely in the moment and in that canoe with you!!! Just beautiful!

Great vid. Beautiful Brookie shots. When he was talking about the difference between Caddis and Mayfly “takes”. He said “ Mayflies hatch and take off quicker so trout hit them harder compared to Caddis where they tend to stick around and stay on the water longer”. I always thought it was the opposite! Lol But, this could very well be the case for fishing lakes.

Good video up to the point where Tom says, "Top Secret Fly I'm not gonna tell you about". I had a similar experience at a remote pond in Maine where I asked a guy what fly he was using and his reply was, "a brown one". I always share my knowledge and keep nothing secret from any other anger. I want to promote the sport and keep people interested in it to the point that I give away flies, hoping the anger I gave a fly to will have some luck. IMHO that's an amateur move and not the way we should educate and help our fellow anglers.

I love the New Flyfisher but can't understand why a barbed hook is used when the intent is to release the fish as around 4:13 in the video. I use barbed hooks when I plan to kill a fish to eat but not when I go to catch and release simply for my pleasure. Your editing and/or policies and practices need to get withit. The fish at 10:06 was out of the water until 10:30. not a good practice, Yah, Yah the water was 44F. At 24:58 there was a good release with limited air exposure, why not all the time? At 11:23 to 11:40 Tom struggles to get his "secret fly" out of the fish... just bend the barbs down. I can't believe the lodge doesn't make this a policy. I hope I don't have to provide more constructive criticism on future shows. All the best, Tight lines.
