RE: Subnautica, I'm one of those people that's terrified of what I can't see underwater - when I first started playing, I was afraid of the kelp beds near the safe shallows and I would stay in the life pod at night and only go out in the shallows during the day. Yet the gameplay is so compelling that despite my fears I finished the game and it's one of my favorites from the past several years.

Mass Effect 1 may be may favorite game of the 360/ps3 generation, I just remember the opening cutscene and being surprised that I had the option to choose what was happening. Thought I was still in a cutscene during the gameplay.

Man, I needed this. Taiwan is on LVL3 Covid alert and schools are closed. That means no work for a cram-school teacher like me. Been bored at home for a week now, hoping my school will start online teaching soon. In the meantime I can listen to this while doing chores.

ZombiU was actually released on the PS4/XB1 as Zombi.

FYI for Biomutant, if you don't like the narrator or the Banjo style voices there is an option to turn them off making dialog faster.

I just imagine while Ben is describing how hard the combat is in SMT5 and how satisfying it is to fight a boss multiple times and get your ass kicked but you learn, Jones is thinking "nope, uh uh no way, I want the bosses to roll over, I'm hard out!"

I'm so glad Ben is liking Nocturne!! Definitely reccommend giving smt4 another run through and 4:apocalypse if you find base smt4 enjoyable.

With regards to RE4's replay value and the island level....I feel there's a point in development when Capcom knew what they had created was not only a horror masterpiece but an incredible formula for action games. So to experiment with how chaotic they could get those mechanics, they designed the blockbuster 3rd act with gatling gun dudes and eventually added a robust Mercenaries mode and a dozen weapon/armor incentives to replay the game. They assumed they could only scare players for so long before diminishing returns, so they wisely left the non-scary stuff in the last level. Of course, they'd eventually go a bit too far with RE5 and RE6, but at least they learned their lesson to go back to basics with RE7 & RE2 remake.

For those who are curious about Nocturne but are hesitant about the difficulty, Merciful mode is almost brain-dead easy. You can coast through most normal battles with just auto battle, and even most bosses are barely a threat. The amount of extra EXP and money you get is also insane.

Brad being that much in love with Subnautica is giving me life. Survival games usually aren't my thing either, but this one quickly became one of my fav games of recent years, love the exploration, atmosphere and audio design. And yes, Below Zero (which I'm playing atm) is really good as well, but I'd recommend playing the original first.

for Canadians, Nocturne's digital deluxe price is 94 bucks

Atlus just likes milking their fans as much as they can. Let's not forget that they released Persona 5 Royal three years after Persona 5, on the same platform, with no way to upgrade for vanilla P5 owners. And not only they asked $60 for that, but also had/have a $100 price tag for the complete version of this re-release.

Overpriced releases are sorta Atlus' specialty.

Regarding music in games, I played Bloodborne while listening to Carpenter Brut's Trilogy album and it went together amazingly.

i'm impressed Brad played DQ8 and FF12 back to back. Their close releases ironically deterred me from jumping into FF12 even though i got the special shiny edition! I spent like 150 hours completing Dragon Quest 8 (my first DQ) and fell in love, it felt like the Chrono Trigger of the PS2 gen....charming Toriyama lighthearted adventure. But I spent so much JRPG time in there that moving on to FF12 just felt redundant, especially since it looked super brown/unattractive in comparison. Didn't eventually beat it until right before Covid, and of course I completed it after 200+ long hours =P

Earthbound is and always will be wild for first-timers. I hated the limited inventory but loved the writing and quirkiness. Can't tell if it's better or worse for newbies to the JRPG genre haha

Out of all of the RPGs in this question I have to recommend Ni No Kuni, that game is wonderful

I also recently replayed RE4 and it's as amazing as ever, but it also makes me a bit worried about the Remake. Every encounter, boss, mechanic, weapon etc is so perfectly balanced even the amount of iframes you get during certain moves/actions.
If they use walk and shoot gameplay like in RE2R and RE3R it could end up way too easy, unless they completely rework the bosses and then i'm still worried if the devs really know just how much thought was put into the original balance and gameplay.
