10 Animated Movie Mistakes They Thought No One Would Notice

There were some really awesome animated movies to hit the big screen in the past couple of years. Some of them won fans over thanks to their gorgeous animation, others for their great characters and stories. Not all of them landed but all of them had an impact with audiences. But despite their success-or infamy-these animated films have some mistakes in them. It’s inevitable but as long as you don’t take it too seriously, looking for animated movie mistakes can be pretty enjoyable. For instance, Maui’s hook in Moana somehow vanishes way before the volcano god takes it away from him. What gives? The name “Destiny” magically appears on the side of a bin in Finding Dory, while a giant red button suddenly appears in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. Ferdinand has a giant plot hole-somehow his new human family know his name despite him being a runaway. How? The Boss Baby actually has two mistakes in the same scene-one concerning geography and one continuity. Despicable Me 3 makes a point of showing the importance of seatbelts but suddenly tosses that out the window in the next shot while Cars 3 sees one truck magically change colors between shots. Coco, the 2018 animated movie winner at the Oscars, has a mistake concerning where characters are in one shot versus another. Lego Batman somehow has an amazing invisible maid that hides a mess between shots. Amazing. The Emoji Movie somehow has the Flash on the team and brings gumdrops between shots-it’s the only explanation. That or the animators just made an honest mistake, but we won’t fault them for it!

Instead of explaining the movie could you just state the mistakes? That's literally the only reason we clicked on the video

Here's a non contininuity error in Finding Dory.

Destiny is known to be a whale shark. Whale sharks are the worlds largest fish, and are known as gentle giants. While they do have a massive mouth, their throat is only the size of a quarter. Therefore, they only eat plankton via filter feeding. So why was the worker feeding Destiny a bucket of fish? Destiny wouldn't be able to eat those without choking.

Actually the Truck was in the background so cars 3 is fine there and the button is under the pencil holder

How on earth did you guys manage to not only stay conscious during, but actually pay enough attention during the Emoji Movie to find that error?

Humans calling animals by their actual "animal" name is nothing new, nor is it a mistake. Just like you're supposed to pretend that the animals are not actually speaking English, you are also supposed to assume that whatever name they are given by a human is merely equivalent to the name they call themselves. It's like having an alter ego vs. your legal given name. Both names just refer to the same person.

When we hear the animals call Ferdinand by his name, they are not saying "Ferdinand, " which would require the ability to vocalize like a human. Instead, they are obviously mooing or barking or quacking or whatever. How can their natural animal sounds possibly translate into any human language? They can't. The whole point of him being called Ferdinand by both humans and animals alike is just to show the audience that they are all referring to the same character.

Fun fact: dolphins have names for each other. They will make a distinctive sound to get the attention of a particular dolphin, and all other dolphins will make the exact same sound to refer to the exact same dolphin. If you call one dolphin Flipper while all his dolphin friends call him [insert incredibly specific dolphin sound here], then in essence they are also calling him Flipper.

Ok, was I the only one who thought about how MJ had his hair caught on fire when he was coming down a huge flight of stairs during the filming of a Pepsi commercial and here we have Ernesto being crushed by a giant bell when he reached the top of a huge flight of stairs?

*LOVE MJ by the way, but I saw Coco for the first time tonight and that was all I could think about haha

Coco was such an awesome movie! Towards the end I almost cried. Never has a movie gotten me to cry before, amazing job on the movie!

Why would Ernesto jump into the pool to save Miguel? Everyone in the Land of the Dead is, well, dead and a skeleton. They can disassemble themselves if they need to (Hector is the best example of this). They don't need all their parts to still function (as seen with Cheech). They don't have the parts they would've had if they were alive and fleshy (noses, ears, all their internal organs, etc.) except for their eyes and hair, but those seem to have their own sets of physics and logic (like how Hector can remove his hair, eyebrows, and goatee to suit his Frida Kahlo disguise). So, why would Ernesto think Miguel was in any danger if he thought Miguel was a skeleton up until his disguise washed off in the pool?

7:19 Actually Ferdinand has been nominated for both Oscar and Golden Globe for best animated film, while the song "Home" was just nominated for the Golden Globe.

If you want Coco mistakes (that are actually somewhat intentional), look through some of the crowd scenes in the land of the dead, particularly during the battle of the bands and the Sunrise Spectacular. Many skeletons are exact clones of each other, right down to the facial markings. I have spotted several different background character designs that were used repeatedly throughout the film, not just in the crowd scenes. The crowd scenes are simply where these copies are most obvious, as you will see several all at once.
