Here in Arizona refusing to take a field sobriety test is an automatic license suspension. The MVD is the one that suspends the license, not the court.

Here in Colorado, you automatically forfeit your license for one year if you refuse a sobriety test.

If you’re asked to do a sobriety test, sober or not, you’re going to jail. If you get out of your car, the chance that an officer is going to say, “you’re fine and I was wrong, have a nice day” are zero.

I had to do one once because a young, new officer accused me of being high. Did the walk, followed his finger, shined a light in my eye, and had to take a blood test on the side of the road (which took months to come back clean)… I was freshly 18 years old and spent a night in a holding cell. Since I was 18, they didn’t contact my mom, and I didn’t get to make a call until about 3am. Had to go months without my license until my drug test came back. I was pulled over for simply making a wide turn, which I did. Yet I was wrongfully arrested because my tongue was green (per the mints I was eating, which I showed him. Also, smoke is grey, not green). I wish I had sued the county so bad still to this day. That cost me all my savings at the time (about 3k, a lot for an 18y/o making $9/hr) and a day of work.
