OMG... This unlocked a core memory! My great uncle was in WWII. He brought this jacket home, and wore it ALL the time around the farm! When he passed away, my dad got it (they were close), but the outer jacket was in rough shape, so my mom carefully hand washed it, and tucked it away in my dad's footlocker.

My dad then wore the insulated liner (which my great uncle never used) the rest of his life. I'll never forget him sitting at the table wearing it while he drank coffee.

My brother now has both pieces (loves WWII history and collects) and they're in a case he made just for them.

Hell yeah man, I bought one from Epic Militaria years and years ago and it's still my favorite jacket. Plus I love that four point collar.

The M65, which is basically a product improved M43 is still a great winter coat. Especially with the liner.

The m65 is the best, and lasted until around 2009.
It's no surprise that it's lineage goes back to ww2.
Same goes for the US ARMY patrol cap which also has lineage going back to ww2.

I'll always love the US uniform design philosophy of modularity during WWII.
Way ahead of its time

My favorite is the Norwegian M75 jacket. Comfortable, and good pockets.

Fun fact in Norway we used it as the standard uniform all up to the 70s and the 80s for the home guard we call it the m 51 back in Norway but it’s lituraly just an m43. And they cost like under 25$ here in Norway so for us Norwegians it’s really cheap to do U.S reenactment 💪🏻🇳🇴😎

My daughter has absconded with my M65. Still think the M65 is the pinnacle of design.

I picked up an original, in like new condition M43 with hood, no liner though, manufactured in Jan 45, at a yard sale for $15 last summer. It was size 38S so I gave it to my son. Great jacket, superbly constructed.

There were also associated trousers. From memory (which is faulty) these were 1944 (rather short-lived) and 1945 patterns, with the differences being the waist and cuff tightening tabs. I had a pair of each, but turned the 1945 pattern pair into extemporised Market Garden/Crossing of the Rhine paratrooper trousers by adding parts of an olive drab sleeping bag cover, with the press stud closure flap making two perfect pocket flaps.

I have two M-65 jackets. One from my days in the deserts of Kuwait. It actually gets cold in the winter, and another one I bought from a military gear website. Both are great for mild to harsh winters

I concur. I'd bought an m65 field jacket about 6 years ago and it's the best darn jacket I've ever owned. It's almost the same as your m43 but it has a hood that's tucked away beneath a zipper.

Oh, a point on the liners, all the WW2 dated ones I saw when I was collecting were the lighter shade of OD, rather lighter than the outer jacket. They were in the same poplin as the M41 jacket.

A very few prototype M1943 jackets were made in the lighter shade of olive drab, like the M1941. They also have open cuffs more like an M1941. Yes, I've seen one. Very rare.

The liner design for the M43 M50 M51 and M65 pretty much stayed consistent. But also what should be mentioned too is the field pants that came with these jackets. The Field pants came with their own liners as well and were comfortable as well.
