I told him that softonic isn't safe your laptop could get virus

I downloaded an app called Smart game booster from that Softonic thing and it was a virus according to Windows defender and it literally kept crashing my File explorer and i couldn't even delete it.
Somehow i managed to delete it from the Explorer but it was still active in bg and windows defender cant even remove or quarantine that file even when i clicked on those options multiple times.
Please help me.

This may be a controversial topic, but i think pirating games from like EA or Ubisoft is okay because they are big companies and not indie game devs. (Except if the website you are downloading from is like Softonic)

In general I agree with you regarding piracy, though I have a couple exceptions. One - sometimes there's simply no legal way to watch or stream content. I remember when the Weird Al movie came out, there was no streaming service that carried it in my country. I went to his concert here on tour and he even joked about it and said he was fine. Two - I don't really care if teens or young adults pirate. Very often they cannot work or have the income/resources to obtain software legally, but access to it at a young age can often dramatically change their lives and career paths by picking up skills early (and can often become long-term, paying consumers).

I downloaded an old game which was removed from the playstore. Before installing though, i checked the file through virus total and it wasn't flagged malicious. Is there any chance that the file can still contain a virus?
