In 1986 we lost many famous faces including Desi Arnaz, Cary Grant, Ted Knight, Rudy Vallee, Kate Smith, Benny Goodman, Ray Milland and James Cagney to name a few. May they all rest in peace.

James Cagney and Cary Grant died the same year!!! I’m pretty sure they were honored by the next Oscar’s Awards. Two huge Hollywood actors

Donna Reed, wow, what an actress, From Here To Eternity and It's a Wonderful Life. 2 huge movie hits. Beautiful woman.
Ray Milland, James Cagney, Cary Grant, what fabulous actors!
Ted Knight and Murray Hamilton, "Caddyshack", "Too Close For Comfort" TV show,
Murray in "Jaws", "Jaws 2", - "You yell shark, and we have a panic on our hands on the 4th of July."
Scatman Crothers, I didn't know who he was until I saw "The Shining" in 1980. Wonderful actor.
Desi, thank you for all the TV show of "I Love Lucy."

I used to think 60 was old. Now it freaks me out how many of these people died in their early 60’s!

There's never been a movie star quite like Cary Grant. Harrison Ford got close, but Grant remains the peak of the mountain.

Hard to believe that Jimmy C went Home 37 years ago . Still my favorite actor of all time.

The year I graduated high school…my life was just starting, theirs was just ending…I loved Ted Knight in Caddyshack, didn’t realize he died in 86.

I heard about Desi's passing on my Sony Walkman. It was a raw, rainy, cold day.

So many deaths from Lung Cancer back then. People during this time still smoked like chimney’s.

Also in 1986, we have the great actress, Florence Halop, who ironically passed away from lung cancer while on "Night Court" one year after her predecessor, Selma Diamond, who passed also from lung cancer.

Even though they were not movie stars or entertainers, I would like to memorialize the many victims of the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster.

The Challenger Accident (like the recent loss of the submersible "Titan") brought the term "Normalization of Deviance" to the forefront when it was discovered that NASA knew about the issue with the o-rings and did nothing to address the issue because they were under pressure to fulfill their unrealistic flight schedule.

I hope you get to see this comment. I've just found your channel but I have always watched these kind of channels anyways. Your combination of background music, titles and the occasional audio file is outstanding. I've watched 1986 and 1987 and it just gives me Goosebumps.
Life and Death are deeply entrenched in my daily thoughts. Life is beautiful yet painfully bittersweet at the same time. Moments passing, memories existing, lifetime's lived. Profoundly deep, sad yet beautiful.
Well done on your editing skills here.

10/03/23: In 1986, due to poverty, I ended up working 60-70 hours a week in a Wall Street vault. That ended in late 1987. Almost all of 1988 was spent in another WS vault. So for 3 years of my life, I was so busy working and sleeping, I had almost no idea what was happening in the outside world. I've spent decades catching up on events. This video has been a great help. Thank you.

There are some notable omissions from this list. I could think of at least two:

Robert Helpmann, the Australian born ballet dancer, actor, director and choreographer (memorable as the Child Catcher in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (1968))

Dame Anna Neagle, the Englisg stage and film actress and singer, famous for her roles in historical dramas in the late 1930s and 40s often directed by her husband Herbert Wilcox.

Only just discovered your channel and it’s great, you do a wonderful job in collating all these together.
I note Rudy Vallee is in this list, he was also a villain in the 1960’s Batman series as Lord Marmaduke Fogg.

What a terrific series. I am in my 70s now, so many of these celebrities and other noteworthy types were my heroes, people who I was lucky enough to call my influencers. How fortunate I was to be in this generation. Thank you for video programs, though sad as they are.
