I can understand, it's really hurtful 😢 you are feeling like in between two worlds: one that was your home but you are slowly starting to not recognize anymore, and one where you are trying to built your own home. My mum is an immigrant too: she told me that it will take a lot of years, but, at the end, you will finally feel at home again 🤗

I know my partner must feel this way inside but hides it all. He pretends he doesn’t miss China much but he hasn’t been home in many years. but we will finally go next year and I hope it will bring him so much happiness 🥹 I can’t wait to see him enjoy his parents cooking and his hometown and his old friends and ah so excited it makes me want to cry and it’s not even mine to miss 🤣

To all of the families who are missing a member because they relocated across the world for love, I understand exactly how you feel.
You want them to be happy, but there's a huge hole in your life.

Luckily we live in an age of video calls, as well as phone calls that don't cost the earth for a paltry few minutes (as it used to be).
However hard it is to miss people nowadays, I always think of people in the past who waved goodbye to their relatives with little to no chance of seeing them again and only having letters and photographs to keep in touch. That must have been heartbreaking.

I had the same experience as Uyen every time I visited home. Always longing for it. Until I actually moved back there and it wasn’t the same anymore. I quickly became dull in the comfort of home and were also craving other things. I think it’s normal to miss family but the dissatisfaction comes from inside !

I’m also thousands of kilometres from my home. 💔 It’s been almost 10 years, and as much as I love my life where I am, it will always hurt. There isn’t a day where I don’t miss my family or friends.

I can only imagine how this hurts. I’ve been trying to run far away from my family since I was 5. I wish I had even a smidgen of the love your family shares. Your genuine smiles & the trust between you is so beautiful.

You can try to see it an another way: you don't leaving home, you just moove from home 1 to home 2 and vice versa. Big hug ❤

❤ I was once asked why I don’t like to travel the world and I said “I’ve created a home that’s a vacation from everything else”. Later in life I didn’t travel because I couldn’t afford it, but I’m hoping to travel more now that I’m closer to retirement age. I’m glad you can afford to go home for visits!

Grass is always greener, lol. Learning the coping mechanism of appreciating the goodness of NOW where you are instead of the "only good stuff" fantasy of other places is a key to having a Happy, fulfilled life. Its wonderful to ALSO look forward to visitng the "other" while simultaneously remembering that neither location is perfect, and both have benefits and drawbacks😊😅
