You Need To Play Downwell

Downwell seemed to come out of nowhere and pleasantly surprised me with how fun it is. It's only $3 and is ABSOLUTELY worth checking out if you like roguelikes or Spelunky!

I have Downwell on iPad, and I think it's one of the best mobile games I've ever played. The controls are optimized for mobile better than most games that rely on reflexes, and it has practically infinite replay value. I don't even know if I would like the game as much if I was playing it on PC.

Not the best rogue style ever, but the music and combos make it worth it. And for $3, there isn't a reason to not own it. Great video as always, sno.

levitate style is literally the only style that's a straight upgrade from normal. Every other style has some sort of drawback BUT levitate. Once you unlock it, there's literally no reason to ever use normal style again.

I loved Downwell when I played it. Every enemy that you successfully stomp on makes you feel good and all the movements and weapons are satisfying.

That intro..throws me back to a time where Michael Mittermeier was at the height of his popularity. He is a pretty smart german comedian (yes, those exist), and a Lassi-sketch was a popular part of his early programms.
Getting that very specific reference out of the way and on to the game itself: Its definitely on my to-get list. Devolver sure knows to pick good games to publish. Looks like a blast to play (literary)
The palette-swap option reminds me of another one of their published games, Luftrauser, an arcade-shooter with equaly simple graphics and surprisingly addicting gameplay.Even one of the booster-variants is similar, where you propell yourself forward by shooting bullets out of the back. Pretty fun.

my favorite style is the one that makes shops harder to find, but makes the gun power ups more common, it makes it so you have a better chance of getting health upgrades and more ammo upgrades, and if you do find a shop you usually can afford everything in there because you're forced to save your money.

You can control the way it shoots to go either left or right based on the direction you're holding, so you can progress down carefully due to the low ammo cost and also control whether or not you want to hit the enemy or bounce on them by choosing how you fire at them as you descend toward them. It's seriously the best item in the game, and you can get super huge combos to get even more ammo to get through the game even more easily.

for its price point it is worth a buy. quick game to get into.
