Berati (quajtur ndryshe dhe si qyteti i një mbi një dritareve) është qyteti
i nëntë për nga popullsia në Republikën e Shqipërisë me një popullsi prej
69,000 banorë. Qyteti është qendra e Qarkut të Beratit.
Gjendet në jugun e vendit, 70 km në vijë ajrore në jug të Tiranës,
përshkohet nga lumi Osum dhe rrethohet nga kodra dhe male, ku spikat
Tomorri, i deklaruar park kombëtar.
Emri i qytetit ndonëse omonim me Natën e Beratit, ndoshta vjen nga
zbutja e emrit në sllavisht Belgrad - Beograd. Dokumentet zyrtare
osmane deri në shek. 15-16 e quanin "Der medine-i Beligrad".
Sipas udhëpërshkruesit britanik William Martin Leake, bazuar
mbi përshkrimet e Tit Livit, e njësoi Beratin me Antipatrean antike.
Më 8 korrik 2008, Berati u regjistrua si sajt i trashëgimisë botërore të
UNESCO-s.

Berat , definite Albanian form: Berati, is the ninth largest city by
population of the Republic of Albania. The city is the capital of the
surrounding Berat County, one of 12 constituent counties of the country.
By air, it is 71 kilometres (44 miles) north of Gjirokastër, 70 kilometres
(43 miles) west of Korçë, 70 kilometres (43 miles) south of Tirana and 33
kilometres (21 miles) east of Fier. It's known for its white Ottoman
houses.
Berat, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, comprises a
unique style of architecture with influences from several civilizations
that have managed to coexist for centuries throughout the history.
Like many cities in Albania, Berat comprises an old fortified city filled
with churches and mosques painted with grandiose wealth of visible
murals and frescos. Berat is one of the main cultural centres of the
country.
