Hard to believe that when John played this theme to Spielberg for the first time, that Spielberg initially thought it was a joke.

“SpongeBob, quick, reel it in! Can't you hear the music? That's a 4/4 string ostinato in D minor! Every sailor knows that means death!”

Imagine you're in a theater in 1975. The Universal logo pops up and the underwater sea sounds start. After a good 15 or 20 seconds, those first two notes play. The entire crowd around you get a very uneasy feeling. Then, the opening credits of the greatest film ever made roll!!

I love playing this music at the beach loudly when people go in the water.

I'm honestly glad I have my love of movies that came out in the 1970s. And Jaws is my number 1 favourite 1975 film.

Everytime my neighbor upstairs gets on my nerve with their deliberate stomping, I always play this on high volume. It always let them know One of these days *IMMA GET YAH!* 🤣
Thanks for the memories of being haunted as a kid everytime I go to the beach... Even in the pool. 😅

Those two notes builds up to the crescendo was the most terrifying part especially when you could not see the giant eating machine my mother was scared so badly she got a swimming pool!

I won't call the similarites to other works borrowing or referencing not without words from Williams. I would like to ask J Williams if he thought of the opening to Dvorak's New World or the flute blasts of Rite of Spring. Makes sense: Both Rite of Spring's rhythms and Jaws theme bring to mind words like inexorable, primitive, threatening. This is a masterpiece from the guy who wrote the theme song to A Guide for the Married Man.

Tommy Johnson on tuba. Fun fact about Tommy: when my ex was six years old, she was incredulous that there were frog legs on a menu at a restaurant. She wondered what the little froggies did without their legs. Without missing a beat, Tommy assured her that they were given little froggie wheelchairs to roll around in. And she believed him.

Happy 50th Anniversary, even though we're still 3 months away.

I saw Jaws when it first came out. That music was the prelude to getting the shit scared out of me. Of course, I was only 12. ;)

If anyone ever think about remake Jaws just no. Don't remake this movie, this movie perfect in the way it exist. You know nowadays filming, those CGI's and standards, and if Jaws will be remaked, it'll turn Blockbuster shark movie into a high budget SyFy B-movie.

Fun Fact: John Williams used "Man's Theme" -- from the 1942 Disney animated film "Bambi" -- as the prime inspiration for Jaws.

I'd say he made the right choice.
