Lee Greenwood - God Bless The USA

When "God Bless the USA" was released as a single for the first time, in 1984, it went to No. 7 on the country charts. That same year, the song was played at the Republican National Convention with then-president Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan in attendance -- and as the years have gone on, the tune has become a rallying cry during various times of crisis in America: after the launch of Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War in 1991, following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and more.
I wanted to write it my whole life. When I got to that point, we were doing 300 days a year on the road, and we were on our fourth or fifth album on MCA. I called my producer, and I said, "I have a need to do this." I've always wanted to write a song about America, and I said, "We just need to be more united."

Lyrics
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife

I'd thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea

From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say

That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

I don’t care what anyone says America is the greatest nation to ever exist! What we have done in the past 200 years of our existence is unprecedented in history. No other nation even comes close to what we have achieved!

I love this song, I am a daughter of a world war II veteran who was shot and almost killed in Normandy and then was severely injured and very close to death in the Battle of the Bulge . Even though my dad went through a lot he always loved his country and taught us the meaning of patriotism. To this day and I'm 75 and still very patriotic I love my country and I love my president, President Trump. Even my 3-year-old grandson loves this song. His mom even made a video of him singing it all the way through for me. We were once in a restaurant and all of a sudden he started belting the song out right in the dining room. My heart gets overjoyed to hear this little 3 year old child no matter where he goes, wanting to sing God Bless the USA.

Lee Greenwood wrote and sang this beautiful song with the passion for America. Am an old lady and I cry every time I hear this. My uncle died in Normandy 3 months before I was born. They didn't tell my mother because she might miscarry and I can't imagine what my grandparents went through. Freedom comes with a heavy price and don't ever take it for granted.
