There's a really beautiful story behind this gig let me tell you:

The radio station organized something called a line check. It meant that you had to stay on the phone as long it was needed to win.

The only thing was only one person could win. The person who won was able to bring along only 50 people.

The guy who won this gig stayed on the phone for like 140 hours straight which also meant he also broke the world record for most expensi... uhh I mean longest phone call ever.

The guy who won had a girlfriend (4:13). The stepfather of his girlfriend went to Pinkpop in 2012 and took a CD with him back home from Mumford and Sons. They all liked the music back home. Then the stepfather of his girlfriend promised him and his girlfriend "We are going to a Mumford and Sons concert one day!".

Sadly about a year and a half before this gig the stepfather heard he had cancer. One year later he passed away. The music of Mumford and Sons was also played at his funeral.

So wasting those 140 hours of his life wasn't much of a waste at all. He did it all for his girlfriend and her stepfather. He kept the promise but made it even bigger. And as he said with his last words of his long phone call "ONLY LOVE WINS IN THE END!"

Seeing the audience watch so intently, some distant, some fully engaged, letting the music take them to that person/memory/experience is something as beautiful as the music itself. You can almost feel the hurt or emotion in every set of eyes in that room. This is what music is about....

Almost forgot to listen to this today.

If only all audiences were as terrific as this one. No drunken fools screaming. No fights. No shouting out when it gets quiet for a moment. Just a group of people enjoying a remarkable experience.

There is a very real distance between a musician and an artist. Marcus is a mix of virtuoso and therapist all at once. He magically blends an understanding of melody and the aching human soul.

Do these guys ever stop working, every version I hear of their songs is better than the last. If they don't go down in music history as one of the greatest ever bands there is no justice !!

You know a liver performance is well shot, engineered, and executed when you feel as if you are there. I would be lying if I said I wasn't lipping the entire performance and casually crying throughout it. BRAVO 3FM! You really have out done yourselves!

Everyone in this audience is stunning. Like actually stunning. And what a treat to see people so deeply engulfed in a musical, transcendent experience.

How refreshing to see an audience listening and experiencing this performance in the present without all having their phones out.

Has to be one of the best lines in all of music... "watch her take me by surprise each time she let's me call her mine" ❤️

His voice is so solid. Entirely on point, even live. A true talent.

9:45-10:30 is just such a fantastic display of musical harmony. It continually brings me back to this video just to hear it again.

How wonderful to see another generation with tears in their eyes and cell phones put away. Respect.
Music will heal you—if you can put your tweets/texts away for 2 hours…
Cheers, from Toronto ☮
