Many people believe that Brown eggs are healthier and more nutritious than white eggs? And some believe that white eggs are tastier. Is it really true?
When you shop for eggs, you may see broadly 4 categories, apart from their color. These categories are based on how the hens are raised and fed.
1. All natural eggs: These are the cheapest and most common variety of eggs. The hens are confined to a very tiny battery cages to live their entire life. They are also sometimes labelled as Farm fresh eggs.
2. Cage free eggs: In this case, Hens have unlimited access to food and water and they are not put in the cage. They have freedom to roam a small area during laying cycle.
3. Free range eggs: in this case, hens can be outside for sometime during their laying cycle. They can get sunlight and fresh air.
4. Organic eggs: The hens also roam outside in sunlight and fresh air, just like Free range eggs. Additionally, they are fed only organic diet. Organic eggs are more nutritious than other types.
As you see these categories are based on how the hens are raised and fed. Naturally Organic eggs are more expensive than Free range, than Cage free and all natural eggs.
Well, all these 4 categories can be in both brown eggs and white eggs. Meaning, you can have white cage free eggs and white Organic eggs. Similarly, there are brown cage free, free range and organic eggs.
