Is Update 'Winged Lions' Good?

It's December, and that means a War Thunder update that is almost certainly rushed. Most holiday updates War Thunder has released follow this trend, and Update 2.13, Winged Lions, is no different. But is it really all that bad? The update certainly has a fair number of bugs, but some interesting tanks like the Type 10 and M51 Sherman were added.

The thermals bug was most definitely not related to the wind effects, but related to the fact that vehicle exhaust is no longer a problem in Thermals.

As a mostly US Top Tier air player, this update as been great. The new EC style RB maps they've added (Afghanistan, Spain, and Vietnam) have been a boon and really enjoyable to play. I haven't really seen any of the YouTubers talk about it yet which is kinda surprising, but if Gaijin continues to add more of these, it would be great, especially if they decide to enable multiple spawn options for Air RB.

My understanding with the traction issues is that they were futzing around with the terrain deformation for the dozer blades to make them build up mounds faster, and thanks to the spaghetti code borked traction. Also, with some of the tanks that received physics based tracks this patch, I've been noticing that they collide with the vehicle model hard enough to spark and slow the tank down.

Ghost shells and random bs bounces are back stronger than ever, idk why but since the update i’ve been doing much worse overall

I've witnessed the same kind of event where the vehicles that drive in the backround completely loose it and smash into your vics.

I main US, so I saw an MGS suffer a mechanical breakdown behind my Abrams. Then it got rammed by another MGS, and then another. Basically they rammed it so hard it flipped over

The traction issue is definitely a thing. When you've got spaded vehicles cannot drive over a small sand dune it's not good.

There's some flashing graphics glitches too.

But my biggest drama has been inconsistent damage.

When you cannot penetrate the turret ring of a T-34 at point blank with a Sherman Firefly there's something crazy going on.

I agree with the traction issue, my leopard 1 can't even climb a slight incline of any material it just acts as if it were a bar of soap that I dropped in the shower.

Totally agree about traction. Never supported the nerffing when first done. The traction should be modelled per the vehicles abilities. That is what drew me to WT in the start, being based on technical data, not artificial balances. Let tanks do what tanks do.

Is it just me or has ghost shells dramatically increased in frequency since the patch time?? I feel like 1 in 10 clear hits is now a ghost shell

As someone who comes from WG's games (and still plays them) the traction thing was really annoying, since I'm used to being able to climb fairly steep things with ease, it's annoying being unable to climb said inclines.

The panther dying at 3:21 and the flame coming out the barrel since the breach was open is always nice! Never really notice it/seems to be a bit rare to see it perfectly like that.

Maps also got larger in air rb. Something that has been requested for years. THANK YOU GAIJIN.

for the AMX-30 heat it's fine because it fights smaller tight tanks like the T-54 or the Leopard 1

The main issues I've had are invisible vehicles. Once in the air where an F-4C didn't render 2km out until he opened up with his vulcans. I couldn't see him or his tag, but he was on my minimap. My allies 30km away rendered him apparently, though.

Another issue, though less able to be sure, where tanks weren't rendering if there was a fence nearby. Both teams were complaining about it, but it was hard to pin point for sure if there weren't any other factors affecting it.

3:36 I’m like 80% sure the main motive for that was the addition of a certain country in war thunder that makes heavy use of tanks with front-mounted engines
