I've only been to 2 funerals so far but I definitely tend to agree that humour is always welcome there, especially if the person would have laughed at that joke.

I was the only person who felt able to speak at my gran's funeral last year and she was ruthless to me with her quips when she could gather her marbles, so you bet I roasted the fuck out of her in that speech. She would've loved it and everyone knew that.

Funerals should celebrate what the person was about. If that person would've laughed at that grave pun it's kind of your last chance to tell them that joke. Take it.

When I interned at a graveyard as a caretaker, that's the sort of humour that was used all the time, during my interview the boss said "and of course here you will be in a position with a lot of people under you" i LOVE humour like this
