How does Richard Branson name his planes?? #shorts

Richard Branson and his Virgin Atlantic have always made positive headlines. One of them which stands out is that all their planes have female nicknames. Richard Branson loved the idea of giving his planes names like they do with boats. Boats are primarily named after women, so he incorporated the same with his airplane fleet.
Now you know. Like and follow for more aviation facts every day.

A couple of my favourites were a 747 "Tubular Belle", since an aircraft is basically a big tube with wings and Virgin Records' first album release was Tubular Bells, and an A340 named "Maiden Toulouse" that was "made-in" Toulouse. Both sadly now retired and broken up for parts.

My guess is that Branson picked up the idea from Eddie Stobbard's trucks. It's a company here in the UK - general large/lots of goods moving stuff - each of which has a girl's name. We're talking about _hundreds_ of trucks (or "artic lorries" - artic = articulated. Don't think we're misspelling Arctic!), each with her own name. This started long before Virgin went into aviation (maybe even before the record company that started every "offshoot").

You will know of plane-spotters, well here we have train-spotters (number of the engine, company - when it's privatised, which happens a lot, as does nationalisation, naturally! - type of engine and so on). Well there are Eddie Stobbard truck spotters. It probably started as a game for kids that the adults started to keep them occupied.

When I was a kid, we used to play the alphabet game (go through the alphabet using registration plates - in order. And because of their nature, letters like Q & Z can be "stored") and "pub cricket" if we were traveling through towns and villages. Every number of legs there are in the name of a pub gets that many runs which you add up - e.g. The Greyhound gets 4. But if there are no legs (e.g. The King's Head) you're out and it's the next person's turn. I wouldn't be surprised if things worked that way here as extensive motorways were a relatively late thing.

Anyway, that's my thought for this tradition!

I mean most men tend to name their machines after women or just refer to them as female, it's a tradition as old as time.

British airlines and airmail carriers of the 20s and 30s used to name their planes, though not always after women.

Wait a minute have I seen this guy in movies I'm sure I have? Unless he has a doppelganger I'm sure I saw him in that movie The Dolphin Tale with Morgan Freeman.

Maybe Dicky could call his next plane the " Epstein Express" 😅

I can't believe that captain Joe (who isn't a captain, but just a first officer) continues to refer to an aircraft or aeroplane as a carpenters tool. Such ignorance should not be tolerated. 😊

Until he filed for bankruptcy a couple of weeks ago. These BS are just for marketing. Why don't any of these show off guys give special discounts or decent treats during flights to their female consumers? The name doesn't cost them a penny.
