Tier 4 Final...

Whether you love it or hate it, it's a hot topic in the industry.

Aaron and the BuildWitt crew visit Quinn Cat in Southern California during this vlog episode to talk to their folks about repowering machines to meet the Tier 4 emissions requirements.

There are more than a few CAT scrapers in this episode. And not just the ones being worked on in the shop at Quinn. The guys visited a job site with Sukut Construction where they got to have fun photographing their 657 scrapers hauling TONS of dirt.

Aaron explains why scrapers are a great option for mass earthmoving and also why it seems that Southern California is some sort of Scraper Mecca.

Believe it or not, he actually explains how the air coming out of the exhaust on one of the Tier 4 scrapers is actually, in theory, cleaner than the air going into it, in Los Angeles County.

I said this once before and I am going to say it again - your audio recording (considering you film outside in construction zones) is absolutely pristine. Not a shred of wind noise. No LOUD music that makes me dive for the volume button. No stupid opening or closing on the videos. Just great information recorded in a VERY professional manor. I'll probably still be here when you hit your first million subs.

Whoever maintains the audio levels in the final edit deserves a raise and should consult with a LOT of the larger channels to get their audio under control - I'm looking at you HeavyD Sparks - your audio is a$$.

its awesome that they give new life to old equipment, instead of cutting them up for scrap for new.. I do miss seeing those 60-70's graders and wheel loaders with the classic "C" cat logos

Good video. The gentleman with CAT forgot to mention that a large portion of the repower to T4 Final is implemented & payed for by the EPA. I can guarantee you the customer isn’t too thrilled to have an extra thousand wires & 30 sensors added to the machine!!

You need to get it right California is the only state that requires stuff to be converted to meet EPA standards them scrapers are legal in any other state to run the EPA does not require a vehicle that was produced before the emissions upgrades to be upgraded

Your videos are fun to watch for sure.
We retired from and moved out of Southern California because developers were developing everything they could put a tractor near. The crowds and taxes and costs are ridiculous to deal with. If you want to do anything fun, you do it with millions of others wanting to do the same thing the same day. Traffic? Forget about it. Peace and tranquility? It doesn't exist.

I used to work for a smaller CAT dealer in central PA. I was a part of the construction aggregate division and worked on portable Metso and Nordburg rock crushers. That CAT dealer is MASSIVE!

Great video. That old Cat @18:00 with a brand-new in-house fabricated ROPS is amazing.

3:31 the big round horizontal piece is the intake air filter housing. 3:58 The gray vertical tube is the air intake. The exhaust filter or dpf is to the right under the hood.

Did you ever think the flatter you make the area the faster the wind moves the faster it dries out. And I live in the Appalachian Mountains, we build houses anywhere. We dig basements to anchor into the hillsides.

We as a society need to recognize that the 80's and 90's were the future. Everything designed, built and done during that time will never be matched now. We need to recognize the perfection that is equipment from that era and not destroy it.
