Port Orford students: A drive to excel

Port Orford has the highest percentage of students in poverty in Oregon — 55 percent. It shows as you drive through the small town, where nearly a third are unemployed. If statistics are true, Port Orford should be failing in the classroom, but every year, its kids outperform their South Coast peers.
