American ragtime composer Scott Joplin’s “Fig Leaf Rag” was written and published in 1908, during his New York City period in which he tried to procure enough funding to publish and stage an opera. The “Fig Leaf Rag” is one of Joplin’s most difficult ragtime pieces, owing to the passages in the second and third strains consisting of bouncing octaves and thirds. As for the structure, the piece is in ABACD form, containing five sections with four strains. It begins in B-flat Major, and progressively modulates to E-flat Major by the second to last strain.

Date: 1908

Finally a version of this exquisite rag that is played at the appropriate speed. Thank you for this.

This gives me some sort of nostalgia, I probably heard it before I even knew what a piano was

This is the next rag of Joplin's I'm going to learn. I already play The Easy Winners, Sunflower Slow Drag and Maple Leaf Rag (it gets lots of requests.) This one is truly elegant, and that last section goes to harmonic places that are delightful indeed.

This is what Otis plays in the Odd Squad movie, just in case y'all have that slight feeling you've heard this piece before.

*Hey what’s the thing we’re battling for?*
*Wait you actually don’t know?*
*No I wish I really did!*
*Dream island!*
*Dream island? That sounds like a disease!*
*Well it’s not*
*A hole square mile of paradise.*
*Blah blah blah blah*
*And the winner decides who should get in and who doesn’t!*
*Wow!*
*Woah! But I thought you were actually well-read!*
*Haha get it?*

Someone needs to check their metronome. That is NOT 100 BPM. Not even close. It's in 2/4 - not 4/4. Sounds like my grandma sight-reading.
