Works of Phenomenology | Intro to Series

This is a new series that will focus on the primary texts of phenomenology. In this video, I will
1) Describe what this series is about
2) Define what I mean by phenomenology
3) Discuss the approach I will take in this series

My aim in these videos is to rigorously present the major questions, concepts, and arguments of the text in a manner that is clear and can be appreciated by those without expertise in the field of philosophy. I hope to do so while not misrepresenting or overly simplifying the ideas and concepts contained in them. As such, my other aim is to faithfully present these texts, letting their voices speak and make demands on my thinking first before leaping into critique. Hence the title of this series: Back to the Texts Themselves.

This is a very cogent and clear description of a very hard work. I am teaching Heidegger at a Philosophy club and this has been a great help to me! Good work!

based on the comments made towards the end of his life: will foucault’s late work on sexuality appear in this series?

That's what I was wondering, where are his credentials?
They are in the fact that this is a field that interest him and he obviously has put in time and effort studying it. I am no college professor either, but have been studying philosophy, on my own for years. Also, this study is not done to get grades, pass a class and go on to something else, never to crack open a book on philosophy again. I study it because I have questions I want answered..
You don't need a title to study or excel in this. There are good and bad teachers. What separates them is not whether they have a degree or not, but the level of their passion for subject. The good ones transmit that passion to the student. There is no law that says you have to have a college degree, to know what you're talking about and there is no law that says, having one guarantees that you do, either.

I didn't have to get a college degree to figure that out.
