This movie is so criminally underrated. One of the best on screen friendships ever depicted in a film, let alone in animated movies.

I wish they would go back to 2d/3d animated movies. They spent a lot more time on developing a solid storyline and character development as opposed to the visual effects which are nice in modern movies but dang, if this wasn't such and original plot and a breath of fresh air. It's got buddy cop vibes, Indiana Jones vibes, even Tzekel-Kan, as one dimensional as his character was, delivered his lines with such conviction and emotion that it made you sort of root for him to rise to higher levels because he forced the other characters to surpass their limits and overcome. A great villain creates a great hero.

I really don't understand why this film was so underrated. the plot was amazing, the phasing is perfect, the soundtrack is 100% on point, and the characters are very well fleshed out, like even the horse has more personality than half of the movie mcs nowadays! it's so bizarre to think this kind of movie was considered a "flop" back then. I'd give anything to see animated films like this again.

2:30 I just love that look Chief gives Miguel like "Well? He's still your best friend, go say something for pete's sake" great animation that communicates so much emotion.

God I love Spanish guitar. It has the most beautiful sound, and with Elton John's voice here, you can feel the emotion.
It's funny too, because my dad always taught me to never say goodbye, always "I'll see you soon, " or "I'll talk to you later." Goodbye was always a final farewell.

I've always found this song really beautiful but it never used to make me cry.. Until now. I was friends with someone for many years, since 2008. We grew really close, really fast. I've always been kind of introverted but she got me to open up quite a bit. She was the Miguel to my Tulio, and I think we worked so well together. I was always more serious and she knew how to make me laugh. She was always so much fun to be around. Only couple years ago I started to see how something was different between us. Maybe she changed. Maybe we both did. Maybe we both were too stubborn and proud to be the first to give in. But it didn't feel like we were as equal as we'd once been. I did so much for her but, in the end times, got very little back. Not that it mattered to me, I just would have wished to be treated with a bit more kindness, the way she used to. Well.. one day I chose to walk away, and we haven't spoken to each other ever since. I know there's no going back anymore, and I don't blame her for anything.. But goddamn, now that I found my way back to this song.. it really hurts. This is one of the movies we used to watch together. Now this feels so much more personal than it ever did before. I miss all the fun times we had and everything we did together. Now they're only good memories I'll always be holding onto. Back when we went our separate ways, I felt bitter, hurt and betrayed. Now.. Now I'm just sad. Sad that everything ended like this for us. Well, partner.. good luck. I still wish you the best, despite everything. I don't know if you miss me or think about me, but.. I still think about you all the time. We might never see each other again, but I know I'll never be able to forget about you.

Y'know it's funny,

I haven't seen this movie in years, but I watched it so many times when I was younger that even with only the music playing, I can still remember ALL OF THE SOUNDS that the characters made in the background. God, I loved The Road to El Dorado. I really wish they had made the sequels they were planning...
