Why Hazbin Hotel Feels So Rushed

The solution to the pacing isn't something people will enjoy, but it is the best solution I've found so far. Sorry Alastor fans. 😭

I apologize to Alastor fans in advance, lol

I miss the days where a season was considered 24 episodes instead of 8 episodes long.
Hopefully, because they have a second season greenlit, these problems fade away. And hopefully, we get a longer season that fleshes everything out as opposed to season 1.

I believe hazbin was probably another victim of only 1 season until it proved it'll be popular

In all honesty, Alastor had the most cleanest and less rushed story ark out of all the characters. Like I wouldn’t want his story completely gone, he was the highlight of this story, and his plot tied into the main story in a lot of ways. He was literally the most interesting character out of the bunch. To remove him Is just silly. There just needed to be more episodes, if this story was an adventure time length full, my god would it be brilliant.

You brought it together to properly determine how that would work. Losing Alastor though would lose a large part of the appeal this show has. Lets be honest most people didnt watch this show for Charlie or the themes. They watched for him

Imo Alastor is easily the best part of the show (besides the songs). He’s so fun to watch. He’s really the only mystery the show has, and to be honest he’s really the only reason I’m watching the show so if they actually killed him at the end of the first season, I probably wouldn’t even bother with season 2💀. Also how is the show overhated? Maybe I’m just missing something but if anything I would say it’s overrated. I’ve seen insane Hazbin fans wanting to crucify anyone that says the show is anything less than a masterpiece

Yeah the show feels like we are in season 2 already

I respectfully disagree. Alastor was the main catalyst for the series as Charlie was brought to keep going thanks to alastor. Wether it be helping with the hotel, finishing out now to kill angels and getting the cannibals to fight adam’s army.

Not to mention his beef with vox as outside of Val, the hazbin crew would no reason to go against the V’s and the V’s would have no reason to care about him. With alastor it brings the V’s to more focus for next season otherwise they would be entirely pointless.

Plus while I hear your arguments most of this stuff is just set up for season 2. Of they didn’t set it up now it would feel rushed for the next season just like this season.

Can we just acknowledge the fact that literally all of Angel dusts character development was done offscreen. Episode four is the start of his development and then we skip to episode six where he suddenly doing much better and is off of drugs despite the fact he was still doing them in episode five. This show has insane time jumps. Apparently nothing interesting happened for five months💀

My biggest issue with the show is how fast they reveal things that are supposed to be a big deal.

The end of episode 1 showing an angel that has been killed is a really good hook for a murder mystery side story. But nope, two episodes later, they debut Carmine, and reveal that it was her who killed the angel. I would have liked trying to figure out who killed them before it was revealed with almost no dramatic buildup.
This one isn't as big of a deal, but the other two cases bother me a lot more.

I liked when Sir Pentious joined the hotel as a mole. What I didn't like was him being found out in like 10 minutes.
In the same episode.
He could have had an arc where he slowly warms up to the rest of the cast, and starts to feel guilty for betraying them, and when the jig was up, he would betray the Vs and officially join the hotel since he'd been receiving genuine care and affection from them.

When Adam reveals to the audience that Vaggie was an exorcist angel. You would think that this would start a mini arc or something where Vaggie tries to hide the truth from Charlie, and Adam is blackmailing Vaggie into sabotaging the hotel from the inside, but no.
He spills the beans in the same episode.

There is hardly any dramatic tension in any of these cases.

Dramatic irony does not exist in Hazbin Hotel.

I personally think the writers aren't setting Alastor up as someone who can be redeemed. I think they're setting him up as a future antagonist. He clearly has some ties to a powerful being that has him tied down to the hotel.

The guy was a serial killer and a cannibal before he even died, and it doesn't seem like he has any want to be better.

It should’ve been at least 10 to 12 episodes to have things breathe a bit more and also to correct the very obvious and annoying animation. Errors upon multiple re-watches.

The series feels like it wants to be a long saga but it's confined to a short series.

I personally like that we have alastor in there and I'm looking forward to gradually seeing where he fits. I also like that characters exist and that we're introduced to them long before they become relevant.

Leaving aside how rushed the series was, one thing that I really did appreciate about the series is how it doesn't portray the porn industry in a positive, "empowering" light. I'd say the majority of porn actors are mentally destroyed people. So the fact that this series didn't have Angel Dust be this "Yes queen get that money" type of character was really surprising to me, but I appreciated it. Those small details and many more save this series.

Honestly, i think theu shouldve introduced the v's one for each season. Valentino being first, as he's a crucial part of angels character, vox next, and the season could explore their relationship, and velvet for season 3, because right now were not too sure how she can be used.

This should've been Angel Dust's season. He's the first guest at the hotel and he's trying to be redeemed. Let's remove the time frame of 6 months and keep it a year, so his redemption doesn’t seem rushed. The extermination happens in episode 7, and Vaggie is the one who kills the angel to protectone of Charlie's guests. Then Charlie gets her meeting with Adam in the Season finale, and he reveals they'll be back in 6 months (because of Vaggie's actions) That sets up S2. Remove Camilla and the overlords, they'll be introduced in S2. Only Valentino is needed this season. And Alastor can still be around, but he's more hands off, like there is a radio in every room of the hotel and if they need something, they just tell the radio and Alastors shadow does the work. Also, Alastor should only help if Charlie asks. Just to give some weight to him saying he and Charlie have a bond. Like, most of his scenes should be with her instead of Vaggie.

I swear he's saying Vagatha on purpose. We only hear that name once in the series and Vaggie immediately says that it isn't her name. It's just Vaggie.

TLDR: As a writer you need to be ready to kill your darlings. A character being cool isn’t enough to justify their existence.
