Ch. 74 - Spring Has FINALLY Arrived at the Cabin

Spring has finally arrived, and with it, the sunshine and warmer temps are coming back to the cabin. Birds are singing, and everything feels just a little more alive. I’m still chipping away at the kitchen pantry – this week, I tackled the door frame. Off came the old hinges, on went the new, and now the door’s ready to be installed.

Meanwhile, a new project kicks off: building the frame for the kitchen cabinets. I also picked up some colour samples and brought them back to test in the real light of the kitchen.

Have you thought of doing a complementing colour instead ? That is a lot of green. It’s a beautiful colour but it can be too much for the walls and cupboards to all be the same colour, even at different levels of brightness. Maybe a light colour on the walls, maybe a warm white or a beige, then make the cupboards 30% green.

My “color” vote. Lightest color on the WALLS 😮- darkest color on the LOWER cabinets - middle color on the UPPER CABINETS/FLOATING SHELVES. Lightest color and mid color are too close in shade.

Hello Marcus! The contrast between 15 and 30 will not be felt as a contrast, but simply as a close shade, check again - but 15 and 60 will definitely be better.

I see many people in the comments like more contrast between the wall and cupboard colors (15% and 60%) but if you like them having less contrast (15% and 30%), you should do that. It's less common, for one thing, and also there's a psychological subtle interest in initially thinking you're seeing all one color and then realizing you're really seeing two. I love your final solution to the larder door frame - Occum's Razor - the simplest solution is usually the best!

Beautiful colors, can't wait to see them. I remodeled a 1965 stone house in the US and I found the original kitchen color under wallpaper and used it to paint. It is a very liveable color. Soothing. I have gray and white cabinets with mine.

Intressant att du väljer den där gröna färgen sen är verkligen en färg ifrån förr. Den var i vårt hus oxå som är ifrån 1889 vi målade om den med en ljusare variant blev riktigt bra mot vit vägg :)

We usually apply the door stop separately, after the frame is installed. It then hides the screws used to fasten the frame.

Unless you think it would be a waste, insulation could be added in your cabinet bases.

I have a portable router table, table top height. I have more control over the wood than I do the router so it works better for stuff like trim. It's like using a table saw and a familiar movement.

Flott å se så mye fremgang! Nå begynner kjøkkenet virkelig å ta form. Et spørsmål om fargene - på skjermen ser 15% og 30% veldig like ut. Er det nok kontrast mellom dem i virkeligheten at det gir mening å bruke dem ved siden av hverandre (på vegg og skap)? Jeg ville ha trodd at du kanskje trengte større kontrast, eventuelt en helt annen (men komplementerende) farge på skapene? Uansett veldig fine farger :-)
