Welcome to Make me curious.
This video explains the phenomena behind why temperature decreases with altitude.

Have you ever wondered why temperature at high altitudes is low as compared to low altitude areas, despite that sun is nearer to it?
So let us have a look at it.
The places at high altitudes are near to the sun but that is not the reason that it should be cold or hot because the distance between the sun and earth is a lot so going 5 to 10 kilometers up won't make any difference to it.
So then why it is cold, the answer is pressure.
As we know pressure is directly proportional to temperature. Decreasing the pressure will decrease temperature. And same things happens in this case as we go up high the number of molecules decreases and the air expands creating less pressure on it and we know that temperature is the average kinetic energy of the system which in turn decreases and cause a decrease in temperature, and this is the reason why you feel cold at the top of a mountain.

Why do molecules expand the higher we get and compact the lower we are?

hello, at how many meters above sea level does oxygen begin to decrease... I'm interested in knowing the beginning of the oxygen decrease, how many meters above sea level does oxygen begin to decrease. thank you

This is due the fact that upper atmosphere is thin. Therefore it cannot trape heat and hence cant produce green house effect easily.

Pressure is inversely proportional to the temperature

Is true for troposphere, but the temperature increases in stratosphere

But there is another process from which heat travel that is radiation that includes no role of particles. What about this

Thanks!
Molecules in solids cannot move right then how we have solids like metals at different temperature

I thought hot air has less molecules compared to cold air. But in this video, when molecules gets less because of less pressure, then the temperature gets low?

Temperature is inversely proportional to the pressure not directly proportional.
