Getting a lawyer when it come to child support is the last thing you want to do. Lawyers, Judges, and Prosecuting Attorney got to lunch together and golf together. Your best intrest is not their concern. It's moving you through the system. Child support is a business for profit.

'" child support " is based on your DISPOSABLE INCOME. For anyone who is on FEDERAL BENEFITS eg: SSI, SSDI, You need to understand. Dec 6th, 2017, a national monetary amount was calculated as what the exemption threshold should be. [ meaning ] you cannot be garnished of a federal benefit between $1.00 and $1004.25. Anything above $1004.25 can be and will be garnished up to 65% if arrears apply.
Do not try and get help through the enforcement division, they will block you from the actual people you need to talk too.
Ignore fresh start programs, anything related to enforcement. Again, this is pertaining to non-custodial parents on Social Security as their only source of income. The courts make a final judgment, the state or county sends it to your source of income, that would be social security. They send it over to the state revenue dept where the order was generated.
The system is supposed to alert them and stop the process if the math shows they are entering the exemption zone of $1004.25. This should create a " we cannot comply with the order based on Federal rules. But this is often missed, so they just input everything manually and send back the understanding and acceptance of the order. So now the person who only gets say, $1084 per month is being garnished $324 per month, they are being over garnished. The only money " disposable income " is $79.75 of which they can garnish up to 65% of. But they cannot allow a garnishment not even for unpaid taxes or " child support " that places the garnished below the poverty threshold.
YOU DO NOT NEED A LAWYER, EVER. Every 3 years you are to be made aware of potential modification of your obligation amount based on any changes coming from either side. Most times this piece of mail does not get where it's supposed to get.
You're struggling, you're stressed out. You call enforcement asking for a modification hearing because you don't want to fall behind.
They don't care. PAY WHAT IS ORDERED OR SUFFER. Each late or missed payment is actually considered a contempt of court charge.
It comes with legal fees and insane interest.
Contact the court directly, do not fear the court. They are not worth your fear. Show them the numbers, let them know if you fall behind they are to blame, you tried to find an adjustment. MOST IMPORTANTLY, NEVER EVER ALLOW SOMETHING AS WORTHLESS AS MONEY DAMAGE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CHILDREN. PLEASE. THEY NEED YOU, AND YOU NEED THEM.

Sis you are off! I strongly suggest you get your facts straight. Please people don't take this bogus advise, She is with them not you. Only an IV-D contractor would advise you to put yourself on child support!

I placed myself on child support and the court system still was disrespectful to me. Every time the woman wants more money, she got more. The court is not on your side believe me. I tried to get visitation, I had to pay for my own lawyer and the Judge refused to sign or stamp his signature. When, my Lawyer and I went back to court, the Judge had me locked up for 48hrs. Note, I have never spent a day in jail nor have I had criminal record. This is how low down the system is. I gave up at that time. My son was 8 or 9 at the time. My son and I have never really had a relationship. He's 18 years old today. His mother wouldn't work half the time. His step father wouldn't work at all. The courts ordered me to pay 1, 200.00 for one child and 600.00 for another.
