I'm actually pleasantly surprised by how knowledgeable Cuban is on the subject. Seeing the title of the video I was thinking it was "another professional sports personality wants yo downplay the legitimacy of eSports" but it's Mark Cuban the wise businessman and sports team owner on the stresses of esports on it's athletes

With how much the meta changes for nearly every game, he's not exactly wrong.

He is 100% right. Esports in the US is a bubble right now

I’d trust him over any of these twitch businessmen

You got to remember Mark Cuban is approaching this from a investor prospective and investors hate volatility. If it were from an esports veteran perspective he could probably argue that he understands which strategies beat each other enough to win a competition.

Everyone can watch football, the only people that can watch league of legends, are people that have played it, which is like maybe 3% of the US population?

I think his point is that it is not that the Esports market is a bubble or going to die as some people here suggest. It is a popular industry and will continue to grow. The point is that because of the technology and way the market is structured, what companies or teams will remain successful or popular is very unpredictable. So any investor does not know which particular team or company to invest in. Game mechanics change all the time, unlike real world sports. Players also come and go more quickly here. Technological changes can also determine what companies are making money.

I misread the title at first.

Thought I read “escorts”.

I hate how people are characterizing Cuban as a dumb old man, even though he’s talking about the games to a great understanding.

Didn't he say this like a week or two ago?

This is especially true with fighting games. It's not about who's best at the game, but who's best playing the current patch.

it depends on how it's handled, it goes for any competitive expirence.

Wow. He has clearly read up and educated himself about it. I'm impressed.

He is right tho in the US atleast. Gamers there are still somewhat frowned upon by the public, specifically the adults. The government also has little to no support in e-sports.

He is right, Mark Cuban is a smart man and a lot of people said the Esport bubble will burst soon and it will make some huge damage

It's nice to hear a visible figure like Mark Cuban state this. Many developers have been saying this for years, but the investors keep pouring money into a bottomless pit that has NOT had great returns here in America. Yes, Esports are growing. Yes, ESports are big in Asia, and parts of Europe. But that's the point. It's still a niche market in the U.S. many investors think will be the next big thing. However, even after almost a decade, it still isn't a profitable venture, yet. A big part of this is how video games are embraced culturally in Asia and Europe vs. the U.S. Until this changes, ESports will be fighting an uphill battle in America, and/or the Western world.
