Thanks, Dwayne. This is exactly why I made this video. I remember how lost I was when I was a new gardener and I want to help people get started in any way I can.

Glad you found it helpful - and that your tomatoes are doing well this year. If you want to, go to the video "Here's your Chance" and post a video response of your garden to share with viewers. Would love to see your tomatoes! Thanks for watching.

They had to work to survive! Different mentality than kids are taught these days, that's for sure! I have to chuckle and your "sheer tonnage" comment! But you can see how that comes from the Depression years. Nowadays we do have the luxury of enjoying our gardening - but there may come a time again when it does come down to survival. That is why I feel it is so important to learn and teach these skills. Thanks so much for your comments and God bless your parents for being so supportive!

Good point - I do use all heirloom seeds. And this year I plan to do more seed saving also - creating disease and pest resistant plants is what I hope to accomplish over the long run. Thanks for your comment!

Hi djchinatown - great question. Actually, they are in the flower. As soon as the flower starts to dry on the stem, you cut it off and dry the flowers further inside. The seeds can be harvested by rubbing the dry flowers together in your hands to separate the seed. They flower the second year (if you keep them in the ground that long), and are truly beautiful. I am enjoying mine! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi toobphish - that is a great idea to have a varmint buffer! I do that as well by planting lots of chard, which the earwigs and pill bugs love, in hopes that they will stay away from my other crops. You are so blessed ot have your parents help you with your gardening! Typo in my above comment- what i meant to say is that the tops are NOW dry, instead of NOT dry. Hopefully you will have lots of carrot seeds next summer.

HI Sam - Yes, there are definite benefits to plants like marigolds - bugs don't like the scent and they are good to plant all over your garden. I have lots of them, and while I still have bugs - hopefully not as many as I would have. Good tip about composting them. Look up "companion planting" and you will get lots of great info! Thanks for your wisdom and for watching!

Thanks, Lisa. As a matter of fact, we did build it ourselves, with help from friends. Hmmm, never thot of doing a vid of that. Good suggestion!

This was a great video. As we gain experience in anything its easy to start tossing out jargon without realizing it. This video is really helpful. Also, your HD video looks great!
