For the first time since 1912, wildlife officials say salmon are returning to tributaries on the Oregon side of the Klamath Basin. It's the culmination of the largest dam removal project in the U.S.

Never thought I'd be so happy about a fish in a river.

Thanks to the Tribes for all their hard work and perseverance! This has been a dream of mine since I first visited the Klamath 35 years ago. I've lived next to it ever since.

A massive success by any measure. Returning to waters above the last dam just weeks after its removal is beyond our wildest dreams!

We fish in Oregon every year. Our fishing guide works on several rivers, including the Klamath. He’s been keeping us informed about this project every year for the past 10 years. His excitement about the project has been exuberant. In the near future, we will fish the Klamath with him. What a wonderful thing the tribes and others have accomplished.

this will impact the fishery all along the west coast, its amazing how when you let nature do what it wants, things work out.

The value of land along those rivers just skyrocketed.

I wish they would restore the creeks and rivers in Illinois to their natural water quality. I remember catching fish in creeks when I was younger. The farmers and oil industry has destroyed our water ways with chemicals and loopholes.

Idk if that river had a rainbow population above the dam but in the Elwha the Summer steelhead genetics survived over 100 years above the dams. Now they are returning in decent numbers.

It’s probably not too late to save nature if steps like this were taken everywhere…

I’ve read about salmon runs as far south as LA in the 1800s. Salmon are commonly found in Pacific Coastal Waters, glad to hear they are making a comeback in Klamath.

If we just set aside natural places and leave nature alone, it can heal. One of our biggest priorities should be protecting what's left of this beautiful planet.
