I remember years ago I was doing commercial roofing, they had me in an old 80s for box van. It eventually just quit running (probably no compression or the points finally went) The day after they replaced it with a 20ft GMC and parked it, I showed up after my shift, and got permission to snag the quadrajet carburetor off of it. Still have it sitting in my garage on a shelf. Rest of the truck probably got scrapped, it was rusted through in spots, we're pretty sure the ODO rolled over 4 or 5 times in its life, so I can't imagine it's doing anything other than sitting in the yard collecting scrap from the tear-off crew. 😢 At least I got a sweet carb out of it. Miss driving that thing.

We didn’t have seat belts in my day. A couple of school bus drivers are never forgotten by me though. When my three siblings and weren’t at the stop, she’d turn the corner and wait for us kids running through a field waving our arms high in the air. We were her first stop super early. We’d sit in the very back seats and yell to her to go faster knowing the bumps in the road would cause us to fly out of our seats! We’d hang onto the seat in front of us. We never got hurt. It was just fun and she’s laughing too! She knew just how to hit that bump! Years later, my kids in second and third grade. The school bus driver was at the stop at precisely 7:04 am. He had a flattop and was clearly ex military. He’d give us time to hug it out and I always thought he sort of liked that. Again, the first stop on the very important route.
