Exodus 20:4 You shall not make make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. REPENT, believe in the Gospel, Be Born Again

Imagine having the literal god of everything save you and your first reaction is complaining and worshipping a golden calf.

You all missed the message. The new golden calf is social media and our cell phones. Do we spend more time in the word or on our cells and other things that do not matter?

John 6:43 Seeing this, Jesus said to them, “Stop murmuring among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father, WHO SENT ME, DRAWS HIM; and that I will raise up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets [ Jesus quoting: Isaiah 54:13]: 'They will all be taught by Jehovah.' EVERYONE WHO LISTENS TO THE FATHER...AND LEARNS FROM HIM...comes to me.
65 And he added: “That's why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father… GRANTS IT.

He's the same God then as He is now. Many have put their faith and trust in false idols. Shalom

You're commentaries are very helpful, actually the book of Ex.and Num. increase my personal relationship w/God he is (God 1st.)but I felt his tender Love as a Father and how he listened to Moses "God listened to man" I love it!!now Exodus 24:9 speak of- Moses Aaron Nadab Abihu&70 elders went up & then it describes under His a pavement made of Sapphire clear as etc.. 11But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites they saw God ate&drink, ( maybe they only seen under His feet because that's all that was described)I love it!! Our Father that's Amazing!!

He even says in Exodus 32: 27-28 "Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour."28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. This means don't mess with God.

it is in our human nature to need something that we can see, touch and experience to worship. that is why when moses wasn't with the israelites, even if just for a brief moment, they start to build themselves an idol of their choosing and worship it.

Because of the people murmuring and complaining against God, and even complaining about all the good he had done for them, God became angry, and he still wiped out 3000 men as opposed to all of them he wanted to wipe out because there had to be a blood atonement. Looking at this calf also reminded me of the bronze bull on wall street. I often thought it didn't belong there for some reason, but I don't feel right that it's there even though it's just a sculpture.

Earnest question: the Cult of the Aipis Bull is (was) a well-documented Egyptian thing. I don’t know time-wise if it lines up with the Israelites’ escape from Pharoh, but their (the Egyptians’ ) Bull-respect (perhaps TOO much bull respect) lasted a very long time, and it’s worship / attention/ breeding “home base” was oddly kinda away from the Nile. [could be wrong, but I think it was West.] Do y’all suppose this is a cultural thing the Wanderers had picked up from the Egyptians while with them ? Many [modern] priests and pastors have posited that the wandering in the desert lasted so long, it perhaps might’ve been G_d’s intention to allow older Israelites [those most familiar with Egypt’s ways] to pass away from age and hard living, leaving the younger folks who would’ve known the desert more than the system they escaped from … the Aipis Bull is unusual: when a non-Jew leading invader (said to be crazy) stabbed what was supposed to be a special white bovine, the Egyptians FREAKED out, a lot. Cambyses (not sure if it was Cambyses the First or the Second. I think he desecrated some mummified bodies, too. Anyhow, I’d appreciate & read all y’all’s thoughts on this. (I’m not a religious scholar, I’m just a history guy who finds much of this interesting. I’m not anti-Christian, and I’m not anti-Jew, and I’m not anti-Muslim, either. My given name—Jeremiah— does seem to suit how I think and talk though. I’m very anti-charlatan, I’m very anti-exploitation, and I’m exceedingly against false prophets (and there exist a LOT of those in quasi-modern times, so my ‘educated rage’ tends to get pointed mostly at those guys. Anyhow, be well everybody: do your best not to “shush” your moral compass (compasses), m’k ?

The other day when I was visiting my grandmother at her home, I tried to remove (and destroy) a portrait of Mao that was hanging on her wall. She became furious and scolded me for taking down a picture of her "hero". I tried to reason with her by explaining that Mao was a mass murderer and an atheist. I insisted on destroying that picture of Mao because it promoted idolatry and communism. I even angrily asked her; "Do you love Mao more than Jesus" and "what does Jesus think about this". My grandmother then began lecturing me that it was disrespectful to destroy artifacts that have been in the family for generations. She had the picture of Mao since childhood, and she intends on keeping it as a reminder of our family history. After watching this video, I have realized that I was very hard on my grandmother for not listening to her side of the story, and being very rude and judgmental. I should have been more understanding of her situation, especially since she lived through the cultural revolution.

Do you have any idea how long it would take to cast a golden calf especially in the wilderness ?
