to be fair this is more likely to start off a riot/prison break arc

Its only a moral delimia if you dont have enough power to make the 3rd choice, take down the guard and give him to the prisoners he threatened to kill for their judgment.

Thats the great thing about dnd, with enough creativity, skill and a little luck you can create your own path

I would let the other ppl die too, then develop my character to be all about trying to get his revenge for his son and his goal be to let the people who control the prison or whatever suffer as cruel consequences.

A moral dilemma my dm gave was that we found a civilization of mushroom, fire, and rock people underneath an island that was actually the shell of a giant dragon turtle. They were brought to life by a crystal that was giving the demon king his powers. We had to decide wether to destroy the crystal and possibly cause mass genocide to this entire civilization, or leave it be and let it continue to feed the demon king.

What would you do in this situation?

I pray to Zariel and offer up my soul. I cast eldrich blast and send the guard to meet my patron in Avernus. Thanks Hell-Mom! The real question is wondering if I'm now a Fiend Warlock or a Celestial Warlock. Preferably the latter for deals, heals, and hell on wheels.

I motion for another fellow prisoner to attack the guard, since said guard would no doubt be hated by the whole prison, and when he's distracted by the riot I free the son.

As a paladin, I'm well acquainted with introducing people to god. I know this guard to be a man of little time, and I am willing to make it especially quick in his case. *Loads divine smite with holy intent.*

Sounds tough until you remember player won’t hesitate to kill a hated npc

Bruh, that's exactly the kind of situation where death is the preferable alternative.

The barbarian never told us the end of their story but we all knew they had a reason to be angry.

Wait, am I cleric? Pretty sure one of the gods would personally like a word with him, along with the rest of the staff... a very violent talk.
