The highly anticipated first episode of "The Last of Us" has finally aired and it brought with it a ton of details viewers may have missed. My favorite thing about this show is that you can tell it’s being handled with love and care. All of the changes they made elevate the story while also respecting the source material.

The scene with Sarah when Joel shouts "Tommy, help me!" It feels hit way harder than the game.

One thing I noticed watching the episode the 2nd time is that the old lady was deaf. The lady said she was deaf when Sarah came to see her after getting the watch fixed. That’s why she didn’t attack Sarah when she came into the house yelling in the beginning.

I think there's also a bunch of hints in this episode about how people originally get infected (which is strongly hinted at in the game in some findable stuff): none of the main characters in the opening segment ate any flour or bread-based foods. Sarah wants to make pancakes, but they don't have the ingredients; Sarah and Joel decline the neighbors' biscuits; Sarah doesn't eat the oatmeal raisin cookies; Joel forgets to bring back a cake for them to eat. The neighbors did eat the biscuits (at least the grandma seen eating it).

Marlene's actress, Merle Dendridge, is the same one that plays her in the games. Awesome easter egg and talent!

This first episode was a great example of taking something that was familiar to an audience and adapting it faithfully while still adding new elements to make it stand out. I can see both people who love the game loving it and newcomers loving it also. The first game was a winning formula that they don’t mess with. There just seems to be a larger quantity of it to fill in some of the gaps.

Sarah's death still hit me hard, even though I knew it was coming after playing the game, was brilliantly acted by pedro pascal, Diego luna & nico Parker

I also like the fact that they change the outbreak year to 2003. It helps explain how FEDRA was able to take over — the US likely had more trust in the military because 9/11 was still fresh

My favorite easter egg was definitely Sarah giving Joel a movie named Curtis and Viper 2, which was a movie franchise that Ellie told Dina about and how much Joel enjoyed it in The Last of Us Part 2

I love this show thus far, Pedro and Bella are sublime as the leads. Plus, I liked that they cast Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in supporting role, as an additional Easter Egg to the game.

A real messed up part was when they were leaving the neighborhood. Joel yells at a neighbor lady to get back in her house, but she goes to check on the infected lady Joel hits with his car and Good Samaritan gets attacked by the infected husband. Only Sarah’s see this happens as their driving away.
