Its funny to me how Materazzi is hated just because he is a smaller name than Zidane. Sure he didn’t say nice things but this is mid 2000's football, players weren't as loving of eachother as they are now. In a World Cup final, Materazzi managed to get into the head (literally) of an altime great and dangerous player for France and get him sent off. It's just smart play. He wound up a player and got him sent off, giving his team the advantage in the biggest match of his career. Only Zidane can be blamed for his actions. He had a personal problem with Materazzi and should've dealt with it man to man after the game, instead he dealt with it on the pitch at the detriment of his own team in a world cup final.

I don't know why everyone defends Zidane (although that incident has no context here) but I disliked more Zidane for his actions than Materazzi. Marco responded to a verbal slur with a verbal slur and Zidane just attacked him.
Straight red card, shameful actions by Zidane and deserved win for Italy.
