I miss this so much. When I lived in the Quarter, I lived at the far end of Royal, near Esplanade, and had to walk to Canal every day to go to work. I would leave 2 hours early just to be able to stop and enjoy the music on the way.

I grew up in Oregon and around the Pacific Northwest my whole life and am so excited for the day when I finally make it through New Orleans and can witness some of this kind of magic with my own eyes. I’m so glad we have these musicians keeping the spirit of New Orleans alive!

please!! what is that guy on the far left playing?  a homemade bass?  it's just a long string connected to a box?  is it real?  I've seen that in cartoons but i didn't think it'd actually make a sound.  does it?  it seems that that string would be drowned out by the other instruments.  what's it called?  how is it played?  or is it just a toy employed for aesthetics?

There isn't a city in the world which only has indigenous musicians, or doctors, or teachers etc. Actually, your country grew out of people who rolled into town and stole it, so how do you square that? Just enjoy the music or GTFO. Nobody stops "locals" from playing. Since they've all been playing in New Orleans for quite a few years now, I'm pretty sure some of them do live there now whether they originated from there or not. Either way it doesn't matter.
