She was 15 years old with obvious birth defects, married to her Uncle, birthing children and burying all but one of them.... died at age 21... How incredibly sad her life was.

Yikes. The imbreading is quite apparent in both her and her uncle cousin husband.

Another example of how being a real "princess" was far from the romanticized Disney-fied version. Walt sort of glossed over that "your family tree is so straight that you call your husband 'uncle, ' and you may die in your early 20s" bit. Maybe it was better than starving or freezing in a hut somewhere, but still not an enviable life.

The Habsburg jaw shows strongly in her.

Rebecca, it is a pity you stopped doing the on this day series, what you tell us is fascinating. I am English, and have a great deal of interest in history, but you are an eye opener because you tell us about people, and their lives, I never even heard of. Thank you for the time you take in researching and then telling us.

Omg there's so much inbreeding that my mind can't understand how her father is also her maternal grandfather as her husband is also her uncle and her cousin wtf is this omg

Ugh ... blaming the Jews instead of incest. Her brother was the biggest mess of them all, but he got to be King.

Oh dear God, she looked a lot like her brother Charles.

She has my deepest sympathy because she lost so many children. I pity her so. She lived a heartbroken life. God bless her. Rest In Peace. May the Lord have mercy. ❤️🌹❤️

I love that you did this piece. I can watch it over and over and over again. I'm also so grateful that someone out there does Habsburg studies. Bless you and again a wonderful video to watch!

Immediately recognized the Habsburg jaw from the portrait. They did like their inbreeding a little too much... imagine being married to your uncle AND cousin.

Oh dammit.. it gets worse, he married her when she was only 15… the 1st baby was born a year later when she was 16. She then LOSES that child a year after that at 17. Jesus! By 20 she has lost 3 of 4 children, and then dies herself by 21! What a tragic experience.

The loss of that many babies after carrying and bonding by carrying them inside herself and then giving birth and caring for them for months. These babies. Her children imprinting apon her as there mother. As a mother and childs bond is like no other. And. There arent words elite enough in any language to describe such love and the bond as that of a mother and her child. I vannot imagine the extremely bad pain of losing a child then to lose so many others after carrying and giving birth and care to these children. Only to watch there lives drained from there tiny bodies. Wow. What a death of the heart of a mother. She must have been a truly broaken woman after suffering such losses. My god so sad.

"She called her husband, uncle." 🤭 Right on the nose with it.

"She called her husband 'Uncle'". Wow, he found a way to make things creepier.

Fascinating and brilliantly researched, thank you! Pleasant Geordie accent. I had seen some of the portraits by Velazquez, but had no idea the pretty child in the paintings had such an unwholesome and creepy life, what with incestuous marriage, congenital abnormalities, rotten teeth, infant deaths and herself dead at 21! The splendour of their clothes was in stark contrast to their physical and moral decadence, while their anti-Semitism makes them even more repugnant.
