With so many store security beaches the past two years, many of us are careful how much information we share with retailers.

funny I returned something and a week later starting getting calls from people saying i applied online for a mortgage loan, car loan, paying my school loan, and then some Asian women that wasn't speaking English who keeps calling, now tell me again what information is going out, they had to get my s.s.n to know about my loan that was in the 90s.

I'm shocked. They get your name, DOB, Address, and D.L number. Everything that is printed on the card. *shocked*

What if they are using it in an awkward way? I have service through Verizon and it never reads Verizon on my cell phone why is that??? Up in the service bars area and it doesn’t say LG or 5 G I hear people speaking to me and it’s not on my phone and they aren’t my thoughts?

Don’t buy medicine in some stores because they ID you and send that info to 5-O. I eventually figure that’s unconstitutional. First, you’re not breaking the law and also it’s against our 4th amendment rights of privacy. Maybe they make believe you have given up your constitutional rights by using their service, but I don’t think so.

when you're asking for this record, you can demand the retailer's data retention policy and evidence of financial responsibility in the event of a data breach for collecting/using your data, see how fast they tell you it's not necessary, you already have a binding contract because you hold uncontested evidence of purchase with the receipt.

Weird. I know Walmart in my state doesn't do that. They want a receipt and scan the card the purchase was made on. This makes sense because it proves who bought it and gets the money back to where it belongs. If you don't have one or the other they can still put it on a gift card so at least the money will eventually be spent there. Don't hand over your DL! They get enough info from your debit/credit card as it is.

It is progrmmed automatically into the registers program .
For exactly the reason Matarese said. Any transaction over 20 will put the register automatically in that mode.

Now we know why Toys R Us is out of business.

So they said never shares or does anything with your information but look at all these breaches retailers have proven themselves vulnerable time and time again so if they can't get your credit card information they have valuable personal information so somebody can duplicate your information it's like when someone goes to buy cigarettes they scan your ID for cigarettes there is no reason for that. They're saying it's for our safety and prevent certain things so why can't you just scan for date of birth if that's the case why does it need my address any place that cards me for buying simple things I just walk out they scan my ID for cigarettes I stopped them and walk out of the store. Why can't the person who's trained to read an ID just read my ID determine my age because a lot of them people that work behind the counter they're the ones that take our information it doesn't have to be a breach it could be a person stealing source of information intermittently on the job because you know they go home after work take your information and start selling it to overseas companies so you become a target for scammers this information is very valuable and it is sold on the black market so there's a lot of Thieves out there that you would never think that would be taking advantage of your personal information next time you buy a pack of cigarettes or booze don't let them scan just go somewhere else

I have never had my Driver's License scanned. But I am concerned that when I go to a supermarket and buy a bottle of wine or brandy and have to provide my Driver's License. I am 71 years old and CLEARLY over 18 years of age. Just seeing me should be sufficient to substantiate that I am an ADULT. As for this story, you do NOT have to surrender your Driver's License for scanning by any retail outlet. If people resisted that, the policy would stop because people would stop shopping there. This is just another small example of how our Rights are being infringed upon with this form of invasion of privacy. To quote Nancy Reagan, "Just say, NO!"

I just say, "I don't have one".
If they want to push it, I walk out and never do business with them again.
I haven't been to Walmart since '97, K-mart since '98, or Sears since 2006.
I recently stopped shopping at Target, because of the alphabet soup pride stuff at the store entrance.

this is how THEY will know who is vaccinated and who is not .To see if you will be allowed to shop, go in certain buildings, airports and shop for food.

fun fact: retailers are not the law and mandatory/policy can be used as a law. I'd blame the Government, they put all your information into a packet and then sell it to some data broker for $1, that databroker then makes a profit at $20 for each person information. The state (government) earns millions from your personal/private information. The data broker earns billions. shall we go on?
