What a great guy. This is essential information for musicians. We often don't want to deal with that stuff and end up loosing money by disregarding the accounting and tax aspects. Take time to find a great tax preparer who understands the music business. My guy saved me so much aggravation and money. It's worth paying for it if only for peace of mind.
I completely share this guy's philosophy of life. I wish more people operated this way.

Man, this discussion is just great value for us musicians. Thank you, Nomad and Scott!

I loved multiple points from this conversation: 1) word of mouth business/testimonials 2) "not about the money" - it's about being humane; he has clients up top, down low, and anywhere between those ends 3) bringing up and addressing LLC, S Corp, etc. considerations - do what makes sense for you, your goals, where you are and where you're going 4) mutual respect - Nomad admiring Scott's math (accounting); Scott admiring Nomad's math (music) 5) plus, many other nuggets. Also, it's awesome that Scott used "fiefdom" - twice! He literally went medieval on us. =D

Outside of those Yellow Pages ;-), how can we indie musicians discover accountants (and other professionals) like Scott? Running my various music projects essentially as a 1 man crew, I very much need quality professional partners on Scott's level, but I know from firsthand as well as secondhand experience the word of mouth testimonial is more beneficial for me versus going the some large corporate route. Additionally, I have other creative avenues that will stem from my music, so having an accountant will prove invaluable for business purposes.
