Solotude is a recording of Ibrahim’s birthday concert on 9 October 2020 at Hirzinger Hall, in the east of Germany. Hirzinger Hall is famous for its incredible acoustics, and the solo piano performance by Abdullah Ibrahim lends itself perfectly to the space. Due to lockdown restrictions at the time of recording, the traditional annual birthday concert was replaced with the opportunity to record a solo piano performance. The recording crew was sparse, the audience non-existent, yet Ibrahim’s communion with the piano remains warm and timeless.
