Trimming horns on cow

As a retired cattle farmer, seeing this makes me wonder why in the world those horns were ever allowed to get like that!!! Whether it happened while the current owner had the critter, or a previous owner... it's despicable. There is absolutely no reason for them to have even grown close to the skull. Let alone into it. That didn't happen over a short time period.😠

That cow is a total boss. Behaved amazingly well, considering the pain he must have been in.

If these people bothered to remove her horns then they probably weren’t the ones who allowed them to grow that long. Most likely a previous owner and they bought them in that condition.

Love his reaction to the first horn coming off. "Hey, that's pretty good."

You can see in her eye the moment the guy plucked that piece of horn from its head, the eye changed...It got brighter!! She literally was able to relax her face after that. Watch her eye as he removes the horn..amazing. must have been in pain and he had no way of relief and just took it like a champ. Someone needs a talking to about taking care of this beautiful animal!

A city woman attended a county fair and at the livestock show she asked a farmer why his cow had no horns? He replied some cows are a hornless variety like Black Angus. Others because as they get older may become a problem hooking or butting someone so sawing them off is another reason, then some farmers when calves first start putting buds out use an iron to caderize and stop growth. But the reason this cow here has no horns is because it's a horse.

Not only were the horns piercing the head, but imagine feeling those vibrations in that wound from that saw. I hope the sweet thing is in better hands now.

I grew up on our family's cattle ranch, where we raised Santa Gertrudis and I can honestly say, we never let any of our cows' horns grow into their heads. The only time we saw this is when we'd buy some from auction or other ranches, but it was very rare.

The appreciation of the cow existing as another life form and us as humans appreciating its relief once removed is very touching 😊

Oh the poor baby! How much pain it must’ve been in with those horns IN it’s head. You can tell the cow knows she’s being helped because she doesn’t fight it, she’s very calm, almost hopeful looking.

I'm a dairy farmer in Ireland and over here we dehorn the cattle at about 4 months old. After that they don't grow any horns. It's safer for us and the other animals on the farm if there's no horns on any of the cattle. I've never seen a horn pierce the skull like that.
I did buy a 3 year old bull a few years back that had 1 big horn because he wasn't dehorned properly as a calf but in that case I just got the vet around and he sedated the bull and sawed the horn off and made sure to stop any bleeding. What's happening here looks barbaric.
