If you want to make E4 mafia a permanent way of life you must apply to become a warrant officer.

E-4 is not a pay grade, it is a state of mind

Rule #1 about the E-4 Mafia: There IS NO E-4 Mafia.

"Don't ask me, I'm just a specialist" I missed that so much.

My buddies and myself would party, climb up on the roof of the barracks and shoot potatoes from spud guns at the mp station, rappel from the roof, super soaker wars in the barracks, (it was the 90s and super soakers were a thing then), intentionally drive each other's military vehicles into shit in the field, and I personally enjoyed driving my nco's crazy. I loved being an E4 so much I got promoted to it twice.

Being E-4 was totally different from my experience. Since I was the highest ranking in our billets/barracks. The powers that be designated me the "room commander" but I was the one that swept/buff the floor most of the time. The Privates, PV2s, and the PFCs are the ones that have mafia mentality. When you delegate them they tell you 'you're not my NCO attitude.

As a member of the E-4 Mafia 23 years ago, it was a bit different. We handled the disciplinary issues before the Sergeants got wind of the issue. We squared away the other Soldiers and kept them in line. Plus my standing rule at the RTO for my Section Sergeant was if he needed something I could get it; he knew not to ask me how or from where I got it. Once we needed a minefield during a JRTC rotation. We had no support from our CO or Supply Sergeant so I took the band of merry men out to breach our sister Company's Field and put it too better use. The next morning as Stand too approached we heard the engines of the OPFOR coming towards us. My Anti-Tank section held a Tank Company for Half an hour before they sacrificed a BMP and turned it into a mine plow. I miss my Infantry days. When you become an old crusty broke dick your forced to become Signal Corps. You are correct though I have seen many manifestations of the E-4 Mafia in my 26-year career.

My memories of the "E-4 mafia" are a bit different. I can however definitively appreciate your perspective as an NCO.

I was Infantry. Worked in the Battalion S3 shop as the Driver/RTO for the BN S3. I was also the default "clerk" as well so that gave me plenty of access to information. Inspections, Training Rotations, Deployments, etc. Also got in tight with the NCOs in the shop that had me do all of their paperwork for them on the new "computer". This was back in the early 90's. So yeah. Me and the S1, S2, and S4 E4s were like a mafia!

I like this new segment! From my experience the E-4 mafia was just a fun little thing the specialist would do since the E-4 specialist is the most common military rank in the US Army.

Nice channel you have here.

Be a shame if something happened to it. You know what I mean?

Hey Chris. I recently found your channel and I love it. i was wondering if you could do a video on Special Forces Officers. I know you covered how to get into special forces, so I thought maybe you could make a video on the officer side of things

I was in the marfia, we knew the ropes on how to get things done. Our buck sgts. Were useless and always shaming, we always watched out for the "kids", wish you made better mention of it in that way but "Kiddos".
